If you're in single player, what is the value of [host]?

IIRC it's crashed once or twice (but that may just be my bad memory); it acts a bit weirdly when the client exits too, for instance sometimes it doesn't terminate.

Probably caused by calling one of the thread functions directly rather than, say, starting them as joinable and joining them.

I would guess also resizing the window to be 0 pixels wide, which my window manager prevents. The map code doesn't like it, presumably.

Resizing the map to be 0 pixels high also did it, but I forbade that for now, while handling the status bar.

And in fact it doesn't even seem to be happy with one pixel high. I've just given the map a minimum height of 12 pixels when resizing for now. Doesn't fix the -s issue, though.

Optional tracking of non-player entities would be useful, especially for hunting and item retrieval.

Placing a torch at maximum altitude causes garbage on the surface and topo maps. Same seems to happen when there are trees at max-alt.

The compass should be retargetable to a point specified by the player.
