PROM: PCSX2 Running on Mac

Run PCSX2 on 64-bit versions of Mac OS without any hassles, for Mojave and above.

PROM is a WINE wrapper still in development intending to run on Mojave and above. Very, very slow development.

As seeing there is now development version of PCSX2 available for macOS, PROM is no longer being maintained.

System Requirements

  • OS: macOS Mojave/Catalina (64-bit only)
  • GPU: any AMD, Intel Graphics won't work well
  • RAM: at least 8 GB

Installation

Installing PROM on your computer can be find here.

There will be issues that I do not know about yet. Report them in Issues please, thank you!

Wineskin Error: No new executables found!

Screen Shot 2021-10-03 at 4 39 30 pm

I tried to install Vegas Pro 18 with wineskin, but after a certain point, the installer closes and this pops up. When I looked for the vegas180.exe file (the actual video editor) in program files, all i could find was this

XAudio2 enging and C++ errors at launch

I have followed all the instructions and have gotten PROM setup and running on my MBP 2018 running 10.15.5.

Whenever I go to launch a game though I get the following 2 error messages:

Screen Shot 2020-06-08 at 11 44 52 AM

Screen Shot 2020-06-08 at 11 45 00 AM

When I click ok, PROM quits.
What do these errors mean and how can I go about fixing them?

MacOS 10.15.7, 16in

The PROM file loads on clicking the DMG, and when I try to open the file I get the below error:
“PROM v1.01.app” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Bin.

Insufficient permissions to open PCSX2-ui.ini

If I click "Overwrite", this message(1) spawns:

Schermata 2020-06-06 alle 22 28 12

Let's go on with "Import". "Next" at plugin settings (despite not being able to configure my Dual Shock 4). When selecting a BIOS rom, I need to untick "Use default settings" and navigate to /Applications/PROM.app/Contents/Resources/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/PCSX2/bios/. I had previously made this folder and poured my BIOS files inside. Now I can choose my BIOS file.

But then if I go next, I get the same message(1) as before.

Installation stuck on next

I resolved this problem by downloading standalone version of pscx2 instead of binary of it, and yes I downloaded Visual C++ 2015-2019 x86 Redistributable. But, weird thing is using "Crossover" (legit app but I use a trial version) does not work on standalone version which is weird. But PROM works. It is deflating that "Crossover" made by professionals is worse than PROM in this case. I still cant run games on pscx 2 with C++ runtime error though

PROM won't read BIOS files

I have followed the steps on Catalina 10.15.5 and I get to the final step where I need the BIOS. I have tried to get the installer to register the BIOS files I have but it says nothing is there, even when I refresh the list and look manually. What do I do?

880MB wrapper? for a 7MB installer?

Surely there must be a way to shrink this down somewhat?!

In this age of smaller SSD boot drives, it doesn't take long to fill up with 880MB wrappers... 👎

"Error when moving/writing/removing file"

I've followed the installation steps and managed to install PCSX2. However when opening PROM.app I get a bunch of "Error while moving/writting/removing file: the volume "Macintosh HD" is read only". I've given both PROM.app and Wineskin Full Disk Access and tried disabling SIP but the errors still persist.

Stuck at first page

Whenever I click the 'next' button it gets stuck and I can't click any other button. The only way to exit the application is to force quit.

Installation still giving me errors

Hi Guys,

Current OS: macOS Catalina Version 10.15.6

I have no idea what I am doing wrong, keeps saying the file needs to be move to the trash. Is someone able to guide me on this?

Still Giving Damaged error

Heya!

I am still getting that damaged error even after disabling gatekeeper with: sudo spctl --master-disable

Any tips?

Thanks for all your hard work!

Configured GS Plugin not found

I did the suggestions to fix the problems of opening PROM and installing PCSX2. I open PROM with PCSX2 installed and here is image of what I got.

I did not changed configurations and clicked okay and got this.

Mac OS Catalina - Opening straight to PCSX2 log screen

Hi there! I followed the instructions using terminal to disable gatekeeper so I could open the app. I managed to install by mounting the drive, copying the app to Applications, showing package contents, then WineskinLauncher script. However, installing the .exe I downloaded from the PCSX2 website didn't work through the Wineskin app inside package contents. I got the "There is no Windows program configured to open this type". So that didn't work. Anyway, after running the WineskinLauncher script, I was able to open the PROM app itself, which took me straight to the PCSX2 configuration. This worked to a certain extent, but the sound didn't work and I couldn't configure the audio to relate to CoreAudio through the shell. I was able to boot some ISOs (but not others), so I assumed I hadn't installed it right.

I assumed this was down to me not installing it through the Wineskin app in the package contents, so I attempted a clean install. I uninstalled everything using CleanMyMac, which is usually pretty thorough. This included Wine and any other leftovers. Now, however, when I mount the drive and click on the PROM app, it opens straight to the PCSX2 log screen. No config or ISO selection, just log, and nothing happened.

So I guess my concern is multi-part - why wasn't the .exe running through the Wineskin app in package contents? I assume I've done something wrong at some stage, but following the instructions just didn't work. Clicking the PROM.app just took me straight to the PCSX2 config as I said, which didn't seem right for a proper install of the most recent version of PCSX2 I had downloaded, so something seems up. Any advice would be appreciated!

Games Running Insanely Slow

So I finally got PROM working after installing the forked version to get around the C++ runtime errors. However, almost every game I play runs at around 35% speed and is basically unplayable. It's entirely possible my Mac just sucks and can't play this, which if that's the case, that's fine, but wondering if anyone has any tips to improve performance?

My computer is a Macbook Pro from 2015, 2.7 GHZ Intel Core i5, Intel Iris Graphics 6100 1536. I'm not super savvy, so if this just can't run stuff, I guess that's just what it is.

Winsekin error: No new executables found!

Getting the following dialog:
Screenshot 2020-06-02 at 21 26 15

Catalina 10.15.3
PROM v1.1.0 beta
pcsx2 1.6.0 stable

I can not choose the install location. Open PROM (Wineskin) I click on Install Software, then click "Choose Setup Executable" then select the pcsx2 exe file and it starts installing. That's it.

Error trying to open PROM.app after downloading

I downloaded the file using Safari, everything went fine. Opened the file, tried to install PCSX2 but the installer couldn't write on Macintosh HD because it was Read-only (of course my HD is not read only.

Download it again on Safari and got this message:

Deleted it and downloaded it again on Chrome, dis the xattr commandd, opened it again and the same message shows.
I don't know if its a security issue of my system or what.
