panda3d-character-controller's Introduction

panda3d-character-controller

This project aims to become a sophisticated and fully featured character controller for 3D games, simulations and other applications that could make use of such.

The main code can be found in the /src directory which also includes a Readme with furhter instructions on how to run and install the library. A demo script is also available to showcase the controllers abilities and usage.

In the /doc folder you can find further information on its usage and configuration. Ther also is a folder containing the demos model blender source files and other assets.

The /data folder contains samples for the character, level and configuration files.

panda3d-character-controller's Issues

Collision geometry not moving with character

When moving the player using

def movePlayer(self, task): dt = globalClock.getDt() self.player.setPos(self.player, 0,self.playerSpeed*dt,0 ) return task.cont
the collision sphere of the character does not follow the player model, how do I stop this from happening?

FPS issuses

First off: Great job! really fun to play with this.

on a side note: in your doc you mention you just have to put the folder player into the root to plug this controller in, but there is no folder "player". minor issue that should be fixed anyway.

to my issue now:
Your test demo runs on 15fps max on my dinosaur of a pc.
I am not familiar enough with panda to judge, if that should be. is it possible that your collision detection checks against visible genoms, instead of pandas behind the scene collision geometry? Since i dont know panda, i don´t even know how to check this.
I cannot think of another reason to why it performs so poorly.

any suggestions?

raise IOError ("could not load actor Model %s" % (modelPath))

When using the character controller it is unable to find the fox model for an unknown reason.

Those are the errors which I am getting when I try and load the model. There is a better discussion about the issues I am having on here which is the p3d discussion forum. Any help given on this issue would be greatly appreciated

CAMERA GLITCH

Hello Sir,

Thank you for this very helpful and applicable tutorial. I want to get going on a project by using some of these templates. As I start the demo.py code, the camera rotates around uncontrollably. Could you please help me? I've been up all day trying to figure it out. Any tips would be great. Thanks again!
