Just a note that page 20 of the Collada 1.5 spec says:

The archive must include a file named manifest.xml, an XML-encoded file that contains a <dae_root> element.

Your readme says the manifest is optional, and it seems your .zae files do not have it.

Can I suggest also including a mimetype element in the archive? This should be the first element, and its contents should be uncompressed. This allows file-sniffer tools to identify the file format, since the name and contents occur at a fixed offset within the archive.

This is the convention used by ODF files, for example. And I am also implementing it in my version of the pycollada-based Blender importer/exporter. The mimetype value I am using is “model/vnd.collada+xml+zip”.

I cannot unzip any of the zae files, not with unzip, nor jar or 7z. The unzippers insist that it is not a zip archive.
