metroviz's Introduction

MetroViz

MetroViz is an interactive visual analysis tool that helps users explore public transportation data and evaluate how well the public transportation system is serving the public.

Usage

  • Running MetroViz requires python2 or python3 with cherrypy installed and the following database file (too large to be included directly in the git repo): Metroviz.zip
  • Git clone the project to obtain the source code and place the Metroviz.db file in the root (MetroViz) directory.
  • To start MetroViz, execute webserver6.py (runs under python2 or python3) and either webserver2 or webserver3 (depending on your version of python). Then, point your browser at: localhost:8000/app
  • To shutdown MetroViz, kill the two server processes.

This repository is badly organized

The source code is strewn around in various folders (demo/, glyphs, routes_trips), and libraries are in various places (sometimes duplicated).

Proposal:

  1. Add a folder called src/ to the top-level directory and move all of the source code to there in some reasonable way.
  2. Add a folder called libraries/ to the top-level directory and move all of the external libraries there.
  3. Remove MetroViz/routes_trips/d3/ and use d3.v3/ in any code in routes_trips/ instead. Remove any other duplicates if they exist.

Route view: stop/route indication

Selecting (clicking) a stop in route view does not give a good indication that the stop has been successfully selected; recommend adding the name of the currently selected stop to calendar view (above where the date is currently displayed)
