add_mesh_fastener's Issues

Module not found

Can't cut a bit big enough with some screws

Create a screw, say M3, set the head to Pan or Counter Sink. Try to turn the bit size up. Above a certain point, even though there's lots of room in the head to cut the Phillips bit into, you get messed-up normals and/or self-intersecting polys, depending on the head type and size of the bit cut.

A similar thing happens with the Allen bit, though one probably won't want to vary these nearly as much as with Phillips.

Adding a fastener messes up some settings (fixed by selecting preset in Object properties)

When editing an existing bolt from the old builtin bolt library, of course all settings are invalid, however, the scale setting operates differently here. I have to set it to 0.1 to get parts that are sized properly, while Mesh -> Add -> Bolt requires a scale setting of 1.0.

My overall blender scale for the model in question is 10.0 (which, when exported to STL, with its scale set to 1.0, produces life-size parts).

Blender 2.8?

I miss this Addon!

There is the old one included and running in 2.8....

Bad normal directions in some cases

Make a screw, any size, but set the head type to "counter sink". The normals on the end-face of the head are inverted from the rest of the screw.

A similar issue happens with the round (locking) part of a "lock" nut, at least with the M5 preset.

Custom presets can not be stored as template for late reuse. | Blender operator presets are not supported.

To be more specific, when adding a bolt or something, in the Tool Shelf will be an option to add, remove, or select a preset. There are two glitches here.

  1. When creating a preset in the Tool Shelf, a period added as part of the displayed name is replaced with a space after committing the "internal" name (whatever blender calls the second name that's offered).
  2. Selecting a preset here does not have any effect on the settings and values in the Fastener Settings panel.
