Use indicator panel in Unity

CellWriter will disappear if the main window is closed under Unity. The program
is still running though. It should be accessible from the Unity indicator area.

Choose languages instead of Unicode pages

Instead of choosing specific Unicode pages, the user should simply be
presented with a list of languages and only be allowed to use one at a
time. This should be doable with a button on the main window.

Test WM gravity with new XFWM

It may be possible to remove the window positioning hacks from the
configure event now that XFWM has (supposedly?) fixed window manager hints.
The idea here is to set the window manager gravity hint so that when the
window resizes in the bottom half of the screen it will size upwards
instead of downwards and the user's pen position will not be disturbed.

On the other hand, the version of XFWM that has this has not been released
yet so it may not be a good idea to remove the hacks permanently.

Activate modifiers for real

A lot of people have requested actually activating the modifier keys for
real for use in programs like the GIMP rather than just using them when
some other key has been pressed. This is a problem if a special move-window
modifier is used however because it can prevent interaction with the
CellWriter window itself!

The proposed solution is to activate the modifier keys when the cursor is
outside of the CW window and turn them off again when the cursor is within
the CW window bounds.

cellwriter does not save profile/training

1) Please describe the problem.
I can use cellwriter as usual. But after restarting my computer and starting
cellwriter, all the training is gone and I get the start-training again.

2) What steps will reproduce the problem?
 a) Use training
 b) Restart Computer
 c) Start cellwriter again.

3) What version are you using? What Linux distribution?
Version: cellwriter 1.3.4-1.1ubuntu1
Distribution: Ubuntu 12.04.1

Please provide any additional information below.
In case the data is not just saved in the home/ directory – my setup has a
seperate /home partition which uses the default ubuntu encryption for /home.

History popup glitched when CW is docked

When CellWriter is docked to the bottom of the screen, and you use the
previous-entry menu (small arrow in lower-right corner), the popup that
appears is the correct height, but all entries are scrolled off the bottom
of the popup, and you have to manually scroll down to see them.

Toggled Cellwriter doesn't appear until mouse button pressed

When toggling cellwriter (via any means; gesture, hotkey or tray icon) it
does not appear immediately. Instead it appears when I press the mouse
button on the focused window. It appears underneath the focused window
prior to this but does not raise until mouse button is pressed.

Using cellwriter 1.3.4 under Ubuntu Jaunty 64 on a thinkpad x200t. Compiz
is running.
Windows named cellwriter are excluded from window decoration, and included
in Above, Sticky and No Focus in the Window Rules plugin, though disabling
them has no effect.
Switching to metacity (by metacity --replace) prevents this behaviour.

When the CellWriter window is inactive, or simply if the mouse is not over
the window, it should turn translucent. This requires compositing to be
enabled.

Only one stroken input possibel

I use Ubuntu 9.10 with CellWriter 1.3.4-1 (tried Ubuntu and official
Version, same issue)

I can not write two ore more stroken, after the first line it trys to
recognize the letter... I'm not able to write a "t" or a "4".

It worked with Ubuntu 9.04. Im not sure if its an Ubuntu or CellWriter
problem...

If you need more information ask...

New profile format

The old profile format should still be supported for reading. It is
however, unwieldy and impractical to use in the long-term. An alternative
needs to be implemented.

Cellwriter can no longer be compiled without gnome, without issues

1) Please describe the problem.
In cellwriter compiled without the gnome dependency (achieved with the
--without-gnome
option), the pen cannot be lifted to write dots on i's, exclamation points, and
other letters
which require the lifting of the pen. Normally, cellwriter waits for you to
completely write the
letter before it records it, but such is no longer the case. This is a recent
problem; I have
compiled cellwriter without gnome in the past, and never experienced this
issue. This started
last month.

2) What steps will reproduce the problem?
Compile cellwriter without gnome, then try training it (or if already trained,
try dotting an i,
for instance. In my case, it didn't work, after which I deleted my profile and
it still didn't
work).

3) What version are you using? What Linux distribution?
Arch Linux, 64-bit, cellwriter version 1.3.4, gtk2 2.18.4-1, kernel 2.6.31,
Lenovo x61 tablet.

Please provide any additional information below.
It doesn't appear that cellwriter *isn't* recording the data after the pen is
lifted. I tried with
writing an exclamation point, and even though it so quickly flashes while I'm
writing,
showing one shape at a time (i.e. first the line, then the point), the letter
is recognized. But
this is a real inconvenience because I cannot use cellwriter properly if it
keeps blanking after
each stroke. This only does not occur if I compile cellwriter with the gnome
dependencies,
which is not something I'm happy with.

Personal language context

CellWriter should save entered text (securely?) and build up a word
frequency model for text entered by the user.

screen.

ctrl-click using virtual keyboard does not register with gimp

1) Please describe the problem.

Some gimp functions (e.g. clone) require holding the control key while
pressing the mouse button. Unfortunately gimp didn't recognize the virtual
keyboard's control button being pressed. For what its worth, xev does not
seem to pick up on it either.

2) What steps will reproduce the problem?

Run gimp and try to set the source for a clone operation using only
CellWriter's virtual keyboard, stylus & button.

3) What version are you using? What Linux distribution?

CellWriter 1.3.4, Debian testing/squeeze.

multiple enters in some apps causes CellWriter to quit

1) Please describe the problem.

Using gedit, I noticed CellWriter kept stopping/quitting unexpectedly upon
entering multiple newlines via its "Enter" button. It also happens in
Firefox' textedit box.

2) What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. launch gedit
2. Hit CellWriter`s "Enter" button numerous (1-5) times.
3. CellWriter disappears.

3) What version are you using? What Linux distribution?
version 1.3.5, Debian testing

installed versions of dependencies:
libatk1.0-0 (1.28.0-1), libbonobo2-0 (2.24.2-1), libc6 (2.10.2-2),

RTL mode in both CW and application

If the application expects RTL input, it will expect the letters in reverse
order. For these cases CW needs to send out the letters as if RTL mode was
off. A GUI switch for this would be ideal.

Cellwriter looses training data?

I'd like to use cellwriter on a netbook running Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric).
Training cellwriter and using it works great, but cellwriter seems to loose the
training data (partly?) on each reboot.I tried to check where cw saves the
training data to backup it manually, but without success. There's a
subdirectory .cellwriter under /home/username, but it seems that it doesn't
hold the training data of the specific user.

According to the man page, --log-level and --log-file should allow logging, but
the logfile is still empty even with --log-level=8.

Not sure how to reproduce. AFAIR on my netbook it never worked, so just
installing cw on ubuntu oneiric should be sufficient to reproduce?

Ubuntu Linux 11.10 (Oneiric), Kernel 3.0.0.15 i386
cellwriter 1.3.4

Plan for Asian language support

CJK languages are not usable with CellWriter, although in theory they
should work fine. Either a pretrained database of Kanji should be developed
or an alternate recognition pathway for these languages could also do the
trick. Either way, need a plan.

Localized keyboard layouts

Users may be willing to create keyboard layouts for their languages.
CellWriter should have a simple format for these (or use an existing one)
and an interface for loading them.

CellWriter does not work correctly with custom keyboard layouts

I've just bought a Wacom Bamboo and tried CellWriter for handwriting
input. Its recognition is very good, but I get very strange behavior in
combination with my keyboard layout.

When I write something like foo<enter-button>bar, I get a result
like this:

oggbar

When you look at the keyboard layout (can be found at neo-layout.org),
you can tell, that the first part gets "typed" on the neo2 keyboard as
if one were typing on a us keyboard, but the second part (and all
following parts, too), after enter was clicked get typed correctly.

I am thoroughly baffled by this. It seems, that typing into the window
manually will cause CellWriter to become confused again.

I've created a log with xev of such a session. If you use vim, you
can :%foldc! to hide the motion events caused by my pen hovering over
xev, so that you may see clearer what's going on.

In that session I create the xev window and move it around a bit (the
first folded-away part), then I type "foo", "foo", "foo" with
CellWriter (it shows up as "oggfoofoo"), then i type uiae in the window
manually and type "foo", "foo", "foo" in CellWriter again (and it shows
up as "oggfoofoo" as well).

Boxes in training mode not small enough

Hi,

can you reduce more the size of the boxes in training mode, so I can really
complain about using my pad in very tight areas because it will be very
uncomfortable to draw every character?

Dont disable Xinput because of drawing outside the box

Originally reported at:
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cellwriter/+bug/290159

If you pen outside the area, XInput is disabled. This might occur, for
example, when you start a stroke and continue past the grid. The attached
patch constrains the output to the grid and removes the logic to disable
XInput.

Auto detect stylus

More of a wishlist, no sure if its doable with Xorg or not but would it be
possible to implement an option so that when cellwriter detects stylus
movement it would appear and then after a short (user configurable) delay
without usage would dock/hide again. Possibly just monitoring
/dev/input/wacom or something similar?

No easy method to determine CellWriter`s version

1) Please describe the problem.

In order to report an issue concerning CellWriter I needed to determine

Separate recognition code into a library

It would benefit the creation of additional frontends to have a unified
library for recognition tasks with a simple API. The library should accept
only training/input stroke data and parameters from the frontend and return
recognition results.

Could you add the patch to CellWriter?

Quick key-combo buttons

"It would be of great use if there were buttons representing such actions as:
Ctrl+a, Ctrl+c, Ctrl+v, Ctrl+p, Ctrl+s, Shift+Del, and so on.

In the settings window there could be a choice of buttons, their "on
button" description and the action of such button.

I think it would really help tablet PC users, as it's not as easy to use
the right-click with a stylus."
