Clojure News Web Application - (Hacker News Clone)
Love this idea, thanks for building this as an open project!
I just tried to submit a story. After entering the url and title, I was prompted to sign in. That makes sense, given that the submission needs to be attached to a user. However, after signing in (existing user), my submission wasn't saved.
Ideally IMO, the flow is great as it is (first let the user enter url and title, then prompt them to sign up). I like it when functionality is not hidden for guest users, and user/password is only prompted when necessary. Maybe add a message "You need to log in to submit"?
It would be quite useful if the app could show comments (marked differently) from other sites where the same "url" was discussed.
E.g. the author of a news could specify further sites where the news was published, and for a supported few, the app could blend in the comments from: Reddit, HN, etc.
This could be the feature for http://clojure.news to "gather everything under one roof" :).
That's a feature HN has https://news.ycombinator.com/rss
I inadvertently submitted an already present URL and a second story was created.
I think the behavior should be the same as HN, that's to say: redirecting to the existing story and adding an upvote to it.
Hi,
Thanks for the ClojureNews site. I have a suggestion: to allow toggling of links being opened in a new tab or not. Perhaps it could be a setting for logged in users, or even just a checkbox on the main screen (saved as a cookie?). I think the usability on mobile especially would be better to just use the back button.
cheers,
Simon
The following clojure related stories don't appear in ClojureNews:
Would be quite helpful if the webapp would "monitor" other sites as news source and with a simple click from admins could fetch the news.
The project is already a few weeks old, and lacks the "news" almost all the time, so it's not uniting but it's just fragmenting the landscape :). Such a feature + the comments feature could make it useful.
Hi,
Is is possible to send an email to all users with recent stories and new comments, every week (or day according to the activity)?
I'm a Clojure beginner but I would like to help if I can.
Cheers,
Damien
I like to use 1Password to manage and generate random passwords for sites such as this one. Going by the "strength" meter from 1Password, it usually takes 24-26 characters to generate a password with maximal strength. Furthermore, if users want to make use of pass-phrases instead of passwords (see https://www.xkcd.com/936/), they will likely require more than the current limit of 20 characters. I understand the point in setting some upper bound, but perhaps 32 or 64 characters would be better?
