Well, this way it's impossible to use jekyll-assets as I don't inject compass and the way you explained processing is done by compass directly. Jekyll-assets is executed by jekyll. By default it will look for assets in:

  • #{source_dir}/_assets/images
  • #{source_dir}/_assets/javascripts
  • #{source_dir}/_assets/stylesheets

I have now some issues with CSS and Liquid processor (#20) and not all compass configuration options are fully supported (#4 and #8). But probably when I'll have some more time I'll fix outstanding issues :D

Hmm, Octopress externalizss the CSS for easy theme switching. Is there an option you may consider that would parse the liquid tags in a compass generated css file within the _assets/stylesheets folder? I currently have the stylesheet imported in my app.css file, shouldn't that be enough?

Is there a command I can call manually to parse the style.css file so that liquid jekyll-assets tags get replaced?

Turns out it was an easy fix. jekyll-assets wasnt working on the file (I presume) because it was already compressed, so I just told compass not to compress it and now it is working great. I wrote up how I did it on matt.coneybeare.me
