enterpriseready's Introduction

EnterpriseReady

EnterpriseReady is content-centric open source project providing guidance for people who build SaaS products (founders, product managers and engineering team leads).

The goal of EnterpriseReady is to nurture the shift of today's enterprise software narrative from "how to SELL to the enterprise" to "how to BUILD for the enterprise".

The content, in the form of SaaS feature guides, is based on studies of 50 leading SaaS application product packages, in-depth CIO interviews, and feedback from countless SaaS founders.

Project Background

EnterpriseReady was started by Replicated, a company that helps enables SaaS applications to create an enterprise installable version of their product to be distributed behind the firewall. Our hope is for EnterpriseReady to create a common vernacular for founders, product managers, engineers, sales and customers alike based on our experiences with SaaS for the enterprise.

We know we're not always right... so we open sourced this, you can fork it, create edits, share it with your team and contribute back.

enterpriseready's Issues

Add a licensing content section

There's a bunch of considerations when companies move from SaaS and on-prem that impact not only their proprietary licensing model but also their third party.

  1. Proprietary SaaS MSAs transform to more traditional licenses as customers receive "delivered" software over "service" software

  2. Phone home, license keys and usage compliance mechanisms must be built-in and tracked separately, as it is much harder to monitor usage when on-prem. When building these systems, an important consideration is to make sure that they must also be fully parameterized to the complexities of custom deals that roll in.

  3. Open source and third party licenses become more relevant as copyleft mechanisms are triggered when you distribute software. Often, customers will require warranties and BOMs (Bill of Materials) that must be prepared, assured and legally audited when they adopt on-prem software.

We at FOSSA would be happy to contribute a new section covering these strategies.

Add Third Party Reviews

Most enterprise organizations, in addition to requiring strong security, will require one or more third party reviews of a SaaS application. Examples include SOC 2 and HITRUST audits, penetration tests, vulnerability scans, and more. An important point is that they are done by a qualified third party.

Broken references to static resources

Change dbac914 removed the directory /site/, in turn removing some static content which is referenced in some of the documents (e.g. https://github.com/enterpriseready/enterpriseready/blob/master/content/gdpr/how-to-read-gdpr.md references GDPR-abridged-text-for-SaaS-Cos.pdf which can no longer be found)

EDIT: It seems like this was the only file and this is the only article that references files from that directory.

EDIT2: Or maybe the broken references should just reference gdpr-abridged.md, not the pdf and all should be fine?
