Emoncms Wifi Module

Wifi configuration module for emoncms. Installed on emonPi pre-built SD card image

Install

  cd /var/www/emoncms/Modules
  git clone https://github.com/emoncms/wifi

Give web user permission to execute system wlan commans:

Append the following to the end of /etc/sudoers:

sudo nano /etc/sudoers

  www-data ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:/sbin/ifdown wlan0,/sbin/ifup wlan0,/bin/cat /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf,/bin/cp /tmp/wifidata /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf,/sbin/wpa_cli scan_results,/sbin/wpa_cli scan,/bin/cp /tmp/hostapddata /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf,/etc/init.d/hostapd start,/etc/init.d/hostapd stop,/etc/init.d/dnsmasq start,/etc/init.d/dnsmasq stop,/bin/cp /tmp/dhcpddata /etc/dnsmasq.conf,/home/pi/emonpi/wifiAP/networklog.sh,/home/pi/emonpi/wifiAP/stopAP.sh

Install emoncms service runner, see installation guide here.

Connection Info on Raspberry Pi 3 returns Connected when it's not

The Connection Info section of the Wifi config module returns 'connected' even when the RasPi3 is not connected to any network.

When NOT connected RasPi3 iwconfig returns:

wlan0     IEEE 802.11bgn  ESSID:off/any  
          Mode:Managed  Access Point: Not-Associated   Tx-Power=1496 dBm   
          Retry short limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
          Power Management:on

When connected RasPi3 iwconfig returns:

wlan0     IEEE 802.11bgn  ESSID:"Crumble"  
          Mode:Managed  Frequency:2.447 GHz  Access Point: 7C:4C:A5:2E:7C:ED   
          Bit Rate=52 Mb/s   Tx-Power=1496 dBm   
          Retry short limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
          Power Management:on
          Link Quality=62/70  Signal level=-48 dBm  
          Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:0  Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:0   Missed beacon:0

When connected =RasPi2 with Edimax dongle returns:

wlan0     IEEE 802.11bgn  ESSID:"Crumble"  Nickname:"<WIFI@REALTEK>"
