congress_api's Introduction

This repo is used to fetch and parse data used as a demo for building the MySQL database behind a Bookworm using Presidio. The data consists of summaries of bills in US Congress and the corresponding metadata for each bill.

Download the Data

python get_and_unzip_data.py

This will download and unzip the data using the multiprocessing module to do everything in parallel.

Parse the Data

python congress_parser.py

This will prep the data by creating the individual .txt files for each bill as well as build the jsoncatalog.txt file.

congress_api's Issues

Can I have push authority?

I'm updating the tutorial you wrote to match the new API, and have a bunch of changes. I'm happy to keep this repo on your account rather than fork to a new one--that's easier than updating a bunch of links--but would you mind adding me as a collaborator on this one?
