hidden's Issues

Zoom menu bar returns to the hidden area on relaunch

Describe the bug

Zoom menu bar returns to the hidden area on relaunch

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch Zoom (desktop client)
  2. Make sure "Add Zoom to macOS menu bar" is turned on in settings->general
  3. Move Zoom to the "shown" area
  4. Quit Zoom
  5. Launch Zoom

Expected behaviour

Zoom menu bar should be in the "shown" area

Environment

Version 1.6 (10)

  • OS: Catalina
  • Version 10.15.5

Hard to see all the icons on a small screen

Describe the bug

I'm a 13-inch MBP user. Hidden Bar is really a great project, it works perfectly during the most part of my usage. The only problem I met so far is that when I have over ~20 icons on the status bar, parts of them will be hidden; But those icons are shown on my secondary screen, which is 15.6-inch.

It causes problem to access the tray icons on the far left or the newly opened ones because those are kind of permanently hidden.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open (many) softwares with tray icons
  2. It will be like this on small screens (some of the icons are hidden):
Status bar on a small screen
  3. But on the larger screen, it looks like this:
Status bar on a larger screen

Expected behaviour

Have some way to hide Safari's control menus from the status bar, or have some way to scroll through the tray icons.

New feature request

Hello,
I Love the App. I would just like to see if it would be possible to expand the apps where the ">" is rather then at end of menu apps, in the scenario I would prefer to place ">" towards far right of the menu bar. I just fill having that would save even more time rather than having to move the cursor to the end of other menu apps.
Thank you for your attention.

It seems doesn't works on my mbp 2018.

I got Karabiner qq wechat siri and spotlight to hide, but it just showed these icons and did nothing.

It doesn't work when I try too click the arrow icon and auto hiding is also doesn't work.

DEVICE: OSX 10.15(19A583) MBP 15-inch, 2018
VERSION: 1.3(1)

Add permanently hide option

It would be cool if we can permanently hide some icon, and show them with special click.
This could be like Dozer, but I don't like Dozer, so please add this feature and I can uninstall Dozer.

[bugs] can not release "none-shortcut backspace"

macos v10.13.6
hidden v1.5

changed the shortcut with "delete"(mac key) at first run, then set none shortcut binding by click the "backspace icon"
now it is like:

but, this app always captures global shorcut "delete" after reboot of macos.

There's too much space around the "<" button

Describe the bug

Menu bar precious space seems to be wasted with all that emptiness. See screenshot.

Steps to reproduce

;)

Expected behaviour

A bit less spacing might be a good idea...

"Display" menubar item gets unhidden after short time

Describe the bug

I would like to hide the displays/Airplay/Sidecar menubar item. However, it's stubbornly re-appearing at its old spot just minutes after I dragged it into the hidden bar section and 100 % reproducible after every wake from sleep.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Enable "Show sync options …" in displays system preferences.
  2. Drag it in the hidden bar section to hide it.
  3. Wait a few minutes (or until the next wake from sleep), it will come back to the old non-hidden spot in the menubar.

Expected behaviour

It should stay at its place in the hidden section.

Environment

MacBook Pro 2020

  • OS: 10.15.5

New feature request

Is it possible to add a support? Settings can directly fill the status bar. Functions like accessMenuBarApps. . I currently use the accessMenuBarApps + hiddenBar combination. .

Could NOT hide icons in MacOS Mojave

App hides the button for stopping recording video (w/ Shift-Command 5)

Describe the bug

It would hide the stop icon for stopping recording screen every time even after I manually drag the icon to the not hiding area in the menu bar.

the icon: ( )

Steps to reproduce

  1. Shift-Command 5.
  2. Start recording screen.
  3. The stop icon not showing in the menu bar. (Have to manually unhide the hidden area to stop recording screen every time.)

Expected behavior

Not hiding the stop icon when recording screen.

Environment

Do not auto hide icon after 5s when reopening the app

Describe the bug

Do not auto-hide icon after 5s when reopening the app.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open Hidden bar the first time
  2. Choose option auto-hide after 5s
  3. Quit Hidden Bar
  4. Reopen
  5. Do not auto-hide

Expected behavior

  1. Open Hidden bar the first time
  2. Choose option auto-hide after 5s
  3. Quit Hidden Bar
  4. Reopen
  5. Auto-hide icon after 5s

Environment

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS: macOS
  • Version: 10.15.1

Add a "toggle auto-hide" feature?

I think it might be useful if the app can provide a "toggle auto-hide" option in the status menu. When the auto-hide is turned off, automatic hide icon timer will be temporarily disabled until the user turned the app on again.

If this is a good idea, I will start to work on this feature.

P.S. I did some testing, this app works perfect on Big Sur.

Displaying Preferences

If you choose "not to keep icon in dock" and "not show preferences at launch", then how would you get to the preferences? Would it be possible to "option" click the menu icon?

Airplay icon position is reset to the right-most after some time

Describe the bug

Airplay icon position is not remembered and always reset to the right-most after some time

Steps to reproduce

  1. Drug airplay icon somewhere to the left in the hiding part
  2. Wait
  3. See airplay icon in the last position to the right of the hiding part

Originally I thought it's caused by reboot. But it survived reboot at least once. At the end of the day I find it going to the right.

Expected behavior

airplay icon position should be preserved

[Suggestion]: Use HiddenBar without "|".

Expected Behavior:

Add an option that can use HiddenBar without "|" on the menu bar. And collapse icons on the left of ">" directly when click on it or press down shortcuts. Because "|" is also using the space on the menu bar.

Login Item does not show up anywhere visible

When enabling the "Start when I log in" option, typically we should see a reference to the app in Login Items of System Preferences. However, in HiddenBar's case, this does not happen.

Lingon X fails to see it, as does LaunchControl. Even osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get the name of every login item' from a bash shell does not list it. The only tool that I have found which enumerates the loginItem successfully is KnockKnock.

Not sure if this is because of some nonstandard plist in the LauncherApplication.app bundle?

Enlarge clickable area for the "pipe" icon [enhancement]

Very minor thing, but it would be nice if the clickable area for the "pipe" icon (which shows app's menu) is a bit larger, so that it's easier to click.

Screenshot 2019-12-16 at 12 10 39

PS. Thanks for a great app! I've been using Vanilla which does the same thing but it was behaving funky sometimes, esp. when system theme changes. So far this looks promising, I will be testing this for the next few days!

Feature request or just some question

First at all,nice work!I love it ❤

OK,here we go~

Feature request or question list:

  • show temporarily the icon of its state has update (such as message unread count number has update)
  • disable when the monitor screen is enough to show all icon
  • hidden has two icon in status bar , has any impossible to hide one of them?

Auto start when login

Now when we use this function. After login, an dialog will appear to ask open the app. We need open app without this dialog

Using Label for localization instead of Image

We are using a separated image for each language.

  • App size increased by adding more language.
  • Hard for other people helping to translate because they don't have an image without text.

Solution:

  • Using banner without text.
  • Add 2 labels on top of the banner image.
  • Localize text on labels.

Add hiding of Notification Center icon

This is the only thing holding it back for me, personally. Bartender does this, and it's nice, but only because I never touch Notification Center. Great application, though. I look forward to watching. :)

Add it to home brew cask - please!

Very nice app!!!
Would be great to have it in the home brew cask repositories! This give users the chance to automaticity the update process if they doesn't prefer the Apple App Store.

Icons are covered by application menu elements

Describe the bug

This seems to be the default behaviour of macOS menu bar. Will there be a possibility to improve on this? See screenshots of Safari and Calibre menu bars.

Steps to reproduce

Just use an application with many menu items.

Expected behaviour

Ideally, the icons would cover the menu items temporarily.

CLI to get the app version ?

I'm trying to automate the manual dmg download from git .. I can get the latest release from api.github.com and would like to query the release that's installed. Is this possible? I was hoping I could issue "/Applications/Hidden\ Bar.app/Contents/MacOS/Hidden\ Bar --version"

Hidden Bar autohides when a menu bar icon/app is in use

This is not really a bug, because autohiding works as designed, but...

HiddenBar (below referred to as HB) should not autohide when an icon/app from the "hidden" section is in use. For instance, my Battery icon is hidden, but I want to examine which apps are consuming most energy – after opening the Battery menu, I can only view it for 5 seconds (HB default interval for autohiding). This is not desirable because I would like to have that menu open for as much as I want. Example below with the Battery menu:

https://youtu.be/4FpfJaqFsgo

This would apply not only to things like Battery, WiFi and other system apps, but also to many other apps that are living only in the menu bar – HB autohiding will sometimes prevent from using that app, as I will need more time than 5 seconds to dig into a menu. See example of interacting with a popular fl.ux app:

https://youtu.be/vSt3ptgf3JA

Please fix ;)
Thanks!

[Feature Request] Support always hiding an icon from Menu Bar

Describe the Feature

RT.

Due to the restriction of macOS, an App have to leave an icon in either Dock or Menu Bar to maintain running in the background.
Currently I am using some Utility Apps, such as Moom (a windows management application) and PopClip. I have them run in Menu bar icon mode so that their process won't be killed by macOS. However I don't want their icon appeared in Menu bar (except they are giving me an update).

Current behaviour

[icon] [to be] [hidden] [folded] | [icon] [that] [will] [always] [show] > [other] [icons]

Expected behaviour

[icon] [to be] [hidden] · [icon] [to be] [hidden] [folded] | [icon] [that] [will] [always] [show] > [other] [icons]

Clever :)

Not sure how to send you a message, but just wanted to say... clever trick. I was interested how you handled it, but then I saw the '.length = 10000'.

Nicely done :)

Don't make newly created icons automatically hidden.

When Hidden is running, it'll automatically hidden all the icons left to "|". As a resualt, the icons created by newly opened apps would be hidden automatically, which makes is impossible for me to notice them and I'll hardly have the chance to open it's context menu. (Poor English. Hope you could understand it. 🤔)

As it's seemingly impossible to change the place newly created icons is, how about have another "|" to mark the left limit? 👀

A little request which is not just needed. Accept it or not as your wish. Thanks.

App (Bitbar) moves to hidden icon section

Describe the bug

I am using Bitbar on my mac. Every time I open my Macbook, Bitbar is moved to the hidden icons section.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Install Bitbar
  2. Move Bitbar to the visible icons section
  3. Close you laptop, open it, log in
  4. Bitbar is moved to the hidden icons section

Expected behaviour

When I move an app/icon to the visible icons section, I expect it to always show up there.

Thanks!

Save current state on mac bar

After user use this app, user can quit app or shut down device. After reopen, we need to load last state (collapse or expanse)

Remove dock icon after closing the app window

Describe the bug

When closing the preferences window (by either clicking the 'x' icon or cmd+w), the dock icon should be removed.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open the app's preferences window.
  2. Close it (not quit) by clicking the 'x' icon on the top or by pressing cmd+w.

Expected behaviour

While the app is running in the background - the icon should not be in the dock and take space.

Environment

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS: macOS Catalina.
  • Version 1.15.1.

App should allow removing itself from Dock

To keep the app completely hidden, I think we should allow users to run it as a faceless application or at least a menubar app (without an icon in the Dock). Check out below screenshots from Moom for reference

[Request]Don't hide icon when using

Describe the bug

I installed HiddenBar and I love it so much, but I have a problem.
I want it not to hide icons automatically when I use shown icons.
Otherwise I want an option for hiding all icons on startup.
Thank you.

big sur layout lost

hidden can't save the layout on Big Sur, every time you restart, the last hidden icon layout will lost.

Allow auto hide after X seconds to be configurable

Describe the bug

I would like it to auto hide but five seconds is way too short for me especially since it can't detect if I am actively interacting with one of the icons. I would like the auto hide time period to be configurable.
