that's because the server right now doesn't know anything about multiple maps per image, especially when serving the files. would solving issue #5 solve this issue as well? the files inside the zip would have the correct names..

Yes, that would be preferable. I just threw both "solutions" out there to let you choose.

So I uploaded a new version which fixes issue #5. I am not entirely sure if this fixes this issue as well because even though the file names of the map files in the zip have different numbers now, it starts everytime from 0. And I could see a use case where you already have some maps in your world and want to add a new multi-part image and now still would have to rename all the files.
Do you have an idea in what way it would be best for the user to input eg. the last map number that he already has or the number for the new maps to start at?

Great to hear!
I guess the most fool-proof way to go about it is asking "how many maps do you have already?", maybe?
If the user answers "3", make it start at map_3.dat".
