CS 5 can't open CS5.5 FLAs, but to date the ones I've dealt with haven't used any new features. I've hacked them by cracking open the FLA, changing the identifier to claim that they were generated with CS5, and then zipping the whole thing back up.

Automate!

FLAs are just zipped XFL, so once the tool from #1 exists, a wrapper to automagically crack open two FLAs and diff them is the next step. Bonus points for nice git integration diffing between commits without extra legwork.

I've spitballed it before, but haven't broken down to write it. Repeatedly saving the same XFL from flash will give differently ordered content in its XML. Eyeballing it, most can be "easily" sanitized, at which point you're left with the ability to actually diff two revisions of a file and maybe actually see what changed.
