The basis for this lesson is that any loader should return a numpy array.

The next release of scikit-image will feature this note in its user guide:

array_like

(which comes from scikit-image/scikit-image#7159). We may want to include a similar note in the "Image loading" section.

On a side note, I just looked at the current section titles: They are not really consistent in form, but maybe the new section should be titled "Loading images" rather than "Image loading."
