Sorry for the delay.
Apparently this extension is not part of IANA's Media types spec as per https://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/media-types.xhtml#audio , which is followed by datauri submodule https://github.com/data-uri/mimer
Other than that, I believe is a good idea to allow custom mimetypes in datauri as per mimer submodule.

mimer parses apache mime types file(based on IANA's spec), the good news is that m4a will be supported on next datauri release 😄
