Well, I'm not a console user at all and bought a cheap chinese gamepad for testing (which is based on the playstation one) and assigned the actions to whatever button I liked at the moment. I'm totally ok with changing them to something more regular, just a question: Cross platform games usually use the same layout, using for example A in xbox and X in ps for the same action or do I have to make two different modes?

Also i checked the settings and chapters menus and yep, they fail as you said, so gonna fix them too. Thank your for oppening this!

I think for playstation the accept / decline buttons are switched, but I kept accept on the bottom button.
Most PC games appear to be optimized for XBOX 360 Controllers. This layout has A in green and B in red.
The way godot maps the buttons, they are in the same position on Playstation / Nintendo / Xbox gamepad. Steam controllers use the same button layout as Xbox.

As far as I’ve learnt so far, button swapping is always a problem. Some games even reference the icons or colors of the buttons.

Best thing would be to allow to remap buttons, but it’s tricky to visualize the keys.
I guess many would also like to play with setups which places buttons near to each other like WASD, which then breaks on French AZERTY and alternative keyboard layouts.
Layouts can always be changed, gamepads can be remapeed. It’s always playable, but it’s handier if one can change it.

Another thing regarding weird button behavior:

  • Finnish first level and spawn into second level
  • Pressing start button has no effect
  • I press X (left-most button) and see the spawn animation again for a few second. (not where I’m standing)
  • Start opens menu again.
    ESC works
