whatsapptray's Issues

Meaning of red number on tray icon

Hello, I just can't understand the meaning of this red number which always appears on tray icon. (usually 1, sometimes 2). What is it for? I don't seem to have any new messages.
whatsapptray

Whatsapp closing even with "Close to tray" enabled.

Hello!

When I click on the X to minimize to tray sometimes Whatsapp closes but WhatsappTray is still running.
If I try to launch again WhatsappTray it won't launch and I need to kill process.

Whatsapp Tray not working: "Error launching WhatsApp"

Hey, thanks a lot for this great tool!
I was using it until yesterday when it started showing me the message "Error launching WhatsApp" when trying to open it. Is there any more information I can provide in order to help narrow down the problem? I couldn't find a log file. The OS im running is Windows 10 Version 1709.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Single click starting/ activation does not work?

Hi there,
I just stumbled upon your WhatsApp desktop client enhancement and it works just perfectly, but it is a bit annoying, that I have to start Whatsapp Tray twice. At first it just opens the main client without minimizing to tray function and only when i start it again with the client already open it activates the minimize to tray functionality.
Is it supposed to work like that or is it a bug?

Error launching Whatsapp

I've installed version 1.3.1 on Windows 10 Pro, but when I launch it this error shows up: "Error launching Whatsapp". Whatsapp Desktop is installed and working.
Any suggestion?

Feature Request: Minimize to tray on start-up

Hi, I'm using your application since today and it works great!
Only thing I was missing is an option to make WhatsApp minimize to the tray directly on start-up.
That is, I don't want to see WhatsApp after logging in each time, but only when I actually want to see it (for example, after receiving a message).

[Linux] Show/hide icon behavior in system tray based on badge status

In Linux (e.g., KDE Plasma's system tray) there is the possibility to show/hide the icon depending on status, which is great to avoid clutter. I wonder if it would be possible to make the system tray aware of the badge status this way.

Not sure if this is also possible in other OS

Whatsapp Portable

I have extracted whatsapp setup to my usb and I run from there. Whatsapp tray doesn't work if whatsapp is not "installed" to the default location. I tried copying whatsapptray to my whatsapp directory and running from there. I hope this enhancement can be made. I want it to be portable and personal.

If whatsapptray detects whatsapp.exe in the folder, it has to work. Please make it that way. Thanks.

Bugs + Correction + 1 very easy and small but extremely important feature/enhancement!

~Bug1: If WhatsappTray is launched before launching WhatsApp then WhatsappTray is running but doesn't work anymore.
~Bug2: If WhatsappTray is launched after launching WhatsApp and everything starts working as it should (which it mostly does) then if you close WhatsApp from the tray then if you reopen WhatsApp then again, WhatsappTray is running but looses functionality yet again.

Correction: The official application name is "WhatsApp" and not "Whatsapp", if you could correct this, it would become so neat and nice. ๐Ÿ‘

Feature request: Notify for updates & give clickable to download the latest version.

WhatsappTray stopped working

Since yesterday WhatsappTray is not working for me anymore. Tried reinstalling without any success. Logs are just showing me:

WhatsappTray::WinMain() - Starting WhatsappTray 1.4.3.0 in Release CompileConfiguration.
WhatsAppApi::Init() - Using leveldb-directory:C:\Users\malte\AppData\Roaming\WhatsApp\IndexedDB\file__0.indexeddb.leveldb\
WhatsappTray::startWhatsapp() - Starting WhatsApp from canonical-path:'C:\Users\malte\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\WhatsApp\WhatsApp.lnk'
WhatsappTray::startWhatsapp() - Filepath is: 'C:\Users\malte\AppData\Local\WhatsApp\app-0.3.2848\WhatsApp.exe'
WhatsappTray::startWhatsapp() - Found match.
WhatsappTray::WinMain() - Prepare for starting minimized.

Feture Request: Whatsapp-Tray Icon with red "unread messages indicator" ?

Hello D4koon
what a great App! - works perfect on my PC ( Win10x64 last release 1803)
but i have question:
is it possible to add the feature, that the tray icon shows the usual red circle
with the number of new messages ?
If whatsapp is open (active on desktop) the red indicator appears in the taskbar-icon (unread messages).
Could you take that over also for the tray icon ?
Best regards
Bernd

Feature Request: Minimize to taskbar and close to notification tray

Hey, currently, i have "Close to tray" and it's great, however can i give some suggestion:

  1. Minimize button at top right hand corner of application will minimize to taskbar instead of tray
  2. Clicking on the application at taskbar can be choosen to minimize to tray or taskbar

Thank you

Whatsapp minimizes to tray while typing a message

Hello all
I have been using whats app tray for quite some time and as of yesterday I am having a problem.
While typing a massage if I misspell a word I get the red squiggly ling underneath as usual.
If I right click to get suggestions to replace the word and then select one Whatsapp immediately minimizes to the tray. When I maximize it the word has not changed. if I do it again it works until I select another word to correct then it does it again.
Windows 10 Pro desktop.

Feature request: start minimized

So I configured Windows to run whatsapp tray at startup, but it would be really usefull if the app could be minimized by default. Couldn't find such feature in the documentation.

Doesn't run on x86 32bit

I am able to install it, but when trying to run it i get this error:

This app can't run on your PC
To find a version for your PC, check withthe software publisher

Picture of the error

This happens for all versions, all the way back to V1.0

The device is a Asus T100 running Windows 10 32bit

Minimize Glitch

When I open whatsapptray and close whatsapp with the X icon, it goes to tray. Because the "start minimized" option is enabled, whatsapp comes to the front instead of staying minimized and then it goes back to tray.

Exit Bug

If I right click and close whatsapp from the taskbar, Whatsapp Tray process doesn't exit. I've to kill the process from task manager. It exits properly if I right click and close it from the tray icon.

Feature request: unread message notification on tray icon

Hi,

This is a great little enhancement to Whatsapp Desktop! I had a suggestion which I imagine is on the to-do list, but still, noting my interest - when a message comes through, the icon in the notification tray remains unchanged, whereas when Whatsapp minimises to taskbar, a message coming through would cause the taskbar icon to update with a little unread message count.

Is it possible to implement a similar unread count feature on the notification icon? Doesn't have to be a count - even just a red dot like you get on apps with updates in Android would be great.

Thanks!

Remove message count until false positives are solved

Until #35 is resolved, the number in the tray icon just distracts and sows doubt about whether there's a new message or not. Let's remove it until then, or at least make it optional. The app is useful enough in itself without a message counter.

Minimize to tray when the taskbar-icon is clicked

  • WhatsApp-window is open and has focus:
  • Clicking the taskbar-icon of whatsapp minimizes it to the taskbar instead of tray
  • This should be configurable by a command-line-switch.
  • The default setting should be as it is currently i think.

This is a followup to #30

Question

Hi,

This program can update automatically when an update is available without force it?

Remember window sizing (maximized) on X-close

First off, thank you for this small but extremely satisfying application. When WhatsApp is minimized, it beautifully minimizes to the system tray as it should.

When the setting "Close to tray" is enabled however, on "closing" WhatsApp-Client while the WhatsApp-Client window is maximized, the window is opened on the non-maximized size and location.

Would it be possible to provide a fix for this, or is this a WhatsApp-Client limitation?

Exit without showing a dialog (or option)

I wrote a little batch file that launches WA and then the tray service. It works pretty well. I just added a line that exits the service to make sure it all works but I get an annoying dialog saying something like "WAtray exited". Is this really necessary?

In case anyone is interested, this is what I use:

@echo off
cls

:kill_systray
call taskkill /im WhatsappTray.exe
REM start Release.V1.2\WhatsappTray.exe --exit

:start_wa
echo Starting WhatsApp..
"C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\WhatsApp\Update.exe" --processStart WhatsApp.exe
if errorlevel 1 goto err

:start_systray
echo Starting system tray agent..
timeout 10 > NUL
start Release.V1.2\WhatsappTray.exe --closeToTray
if errorlevel 1 goto err
echo ..OK
echo.

:done
goto end

:err
echo.
echo An error occured :(
pause

:end

Frequent crashes

Very useful little app :)

I do have an issue with the latest version - not sure when and how but it seems to crash quite frequently.
I'm using Windows 10 Pro build 1703 (latest).
It's probably worth noting that the initial version I used worked flawlessly.

Thanks

Not Working

With windows 10 64 bit (Microsoft Windows, Version 10.0.10586) and WhatsApp Desktop version 0.2.2245, WhatsappTray V1.1 is not working. PS: RBTray too no longer works wih WhatsApp Desktop

Feture Request: Changing the functions of X button

Hello there, as a frequent whatsapp user for work, I accidentally press the X button a lot and the opening times of whatsapp irritate me..

Could you also make the app sends wp to tray when user press X?

How to run it?

I downloaded it, but there is no exe am i missing something ?

New message detection has false postives.

It is not 100% correct. Im not sure if it is possible to differentiated between messages and whatever causes the false postives with the current method of detection.

high CPU load

Hello!
Please check why sometimes Whatsapp Tray.exe are using my CPU at 15-20%.
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz

Viruses detected. Could not download.

Windows defender detected a trojan virus with version 1.4.3 and would not let me download this application. And although win defender did not detect viruses with older versions, virustotal.com still detected a lot of viruses including trojans in the older versions. what gives guys?

ALT+F4 or CTRL+F4

Hi!

CTRL+F4 didn't work, and ALT+F4 โ€” WhatsApp closes completely, and not minimized to the tray.

Feature Request: Mirror Taskbar Badge

When WhatsApp is not minimized to tray and is not in focus, a red badge appears when there's an unread message on the taskbar icon. It would be great if the system tray icon mirrored this status so you know there's something to read.
