Con un pequeño grupo de otros participantes, mire el documento y piense en algunas categorías que podrían usarse para describirlo. ¿Qué tipo de información querrían saber sobre este objeto para poder encontrarlo, evaluarlo o analizar su calidad?

Tomaremos 5 minutos para completar esta actividad. Oirán un pitido cuando se acabe el tiempo.

Primero, analizaremos un ejemplo juntos. Luego, tendrá la oportunidad de practicar la creación de metadatos de acuerdo con estándares específicos en grupos pequeños.

Volvamos al documento que vimos anteriormente durante la primera actividad. Como recordatorio, también puede encontrar un enlace a esta imagen en el documento vinculado a esta presentación en https://bit.ly/45NRXfY. En este ejercicio, crearemos metadatos para el documento de acuerdo con los siguientes estándares:

• Usaremos el esquema de metadatos Dublin Core como marco.

• Usaremos el estándar de contenido DACS para el formato del campo Fecha.

• Usaremos los códigos ISO estándar de valor de datos para la representación de nombres de idiomas (ISO 639-3) para el campo Idioma.

Ahora, en un grupo pequeño, cree metadatos para los documentos a continuación de acuerdo con los siguientes estándares: Esquema de metadatos Dublin Core, DACS para el formato del campo Fecha e ISO 639-3 para el campo Idioma. Haga su propia copia de la hoja de cálculo aquí para completarla, si le resulta útil. Tendrás 10 minutos para completar tantos campos como puedas. Oirá un pitido cuando se acabe el tiempo.

• Documento 1:

Acta de matrimonio impresa de 1904 entre Felipe Colligüin (nacido 1851) y Maria Cusecheo Lemunao (nacida 1879). Creada por el Registro Civil en Temuko, Chile y escrita en castellano y mapuche.

• Documento 2:

Una grabación de audio del autor colombiano Héctor Abad Faciolince leyendo su obra titulada “Testamento involuntario” en 2015, en español.

Piense en los datos y el material de origen con los que interactúa con frecuencia, o con los que desearía poder interactuar más. ¿Dónde se conservan? Si en una institución, ¿han aplicado sus propios metadatos? Si es así, ¿qué tan robusto son? ¿Falta información? ¿Sería capaz de encontrar los materiales si no supiera que existen? Si no se lleva conserva en una institución, ¿cómo puede ayudar a garantizar que se registre la información contextual del material? ¿Cómo puede mantener esa información consistente mientras satisface las necesidades de los usuarios potenciales?

With a small group of other participants, look at the document and come up with some categories that could be used to describe it. What kind of information would you want to know about this object so that you could find it, assess it, or analyze its quality?

We'll take 5 minutes to complete this activity. You'll hear a beep when our time is up.

First, we will go through an example together. Then you'll have a chance to practice creating metadata according to specific standards in small groups.

Let's return to the document we looked at earlier during the first activity. As a reminder, you can also find a link to this image on the document linked to this presentation at https://bit.ly/45NRXfY. In this exercise, we will create metadata for the document according to the following standards:

We will use the Dublin Core metadata schema as a framework. We will use the content standard DACS for the formatting of the Date field. We will use the data value standard ISO Codes for the Representation of Names of Languages (ISO 639-3) for the Language field.

Now, in a small group, create metadata for the documents below according to the following standards: Dublin Core metadata schema, DACS for the formatting of the Date field, and ISO 639-3 for the Language field. Make your own copy of the spreadsheet here to fill in, if it is helpful. You'll have 10 minutes to complete as many fields as you can. You will hear a beep when our time is up.

• Document 1:

Apply what you've learned today!

Think about the data and source material you interact with frequently, or which you wish you could interact with more. Where is it held? If in an institution, have they applied their own metadata? If so, how robust is it? Is there information missing? Would you be able to find the materials if you didn't already know they existed? If it is not held in an institution, how can you help ensure that contextual information is recorded for the material? How can you keep that information consistent while meeting the needs of potential users?
