So... is this project copyrighted, or is it under the GNU General Public License? I'm confused.

I just wonder if it can be possible to add the option to activate the plugin without go to "Preferences-->Plugins-->eog-modofied date--> Enable", maybe something like a check option at the menu option at eog (for example below Slideshow option), as the "Tools" option at Gedit menu.
Installed the plugin by creating ~/.local/share/eog/ and ~/.local/share/eog/plugins/ and moving all the files into that dir, which worked fine. Relaunched eog and the plugin shows up and works, but when clicking on preferences I just get an empty pane like in this screenshot:

thanks a lot for this potentially very useful feature. I wanted to install it on my machine (Ubuntu 18.04.5) but got the following error:
(eog:18977): libpeas-WARNING **: 21:51:09.942: Error initializing Python Plugin Loader: PyGObject initialization failed
ImportError: could not import gobject (error was: ModuleNotFoundError("No module named 'gi'",))
(eog:18977): libpeas-WARNING **: 21:51:09.942: Please check the installation of all the Python related packages required by libpeas and try again
(eog:18977): libpeas-WARNING **: 21:51:09.942: Loader 'python3' is not a valid PeasPluginLoader instance
It's complaining both about the python3 and the module gi. I don't know enough about this to assess it further, but do you have an idea how to solve this? Thanks :)
Following the instructions, after copying the folder and starting eog, I am getting this error:

System: Ubuntu 18.04.5, eog 3.28.1
What happens:
EOG with this plugin takes all memory available while browsing photos in big folder.
How to reproduce:
Create folder of about 800 .HEIC photos. Start viewing photos one by one from the first photo using EOG with this plugin and just wait :)
In my case - used 8GB of RAM + 8GB of swap at aprox. 300 hundred photos, then EOG crushed.
Ubuntu 20.04, EOG 3.36.3
Suggestion:
Haven't looked into sources yet, but suppose its needed to unload past photos from RAM
