Sigh, here we are again with yet another issue on the meta system. I thought of this idea earlier, and I thought I would share it.
I would like to preface this by saying that I personally don't like the meta system, but I don't particularly dislike it either - I'm kind of neutral on the topic. I agree that the suggestions system did need more organisation, but I don't really agree that making a meta repository was the way to do it. The meta repository is very organised, however it requires an extensive amount of preparation for what it does - you'll spend more time setting things up than suggesting and implementing things. So that leaves me here (attempting) to provide a solution. From what I've seen, people want the suggestions system to remain in Discord, so here is what I thought of.
All the details can be fine tuned, but you'll see the general idea.
The system
You suggest something as normal, using a designated command. However, as opposed to using the other suggestions bot that is now used for polls, you would use a command that has its functionality built-in to the Cyber Discovery bot. It would take your suggestion, and place it in a channel with reactions, like it previously worked. If the suggestion reached a certain amount of reactions, a channel would be made (the description being the suggestion) and everyone could see and talk in the channel. The embed would be re-sent at the top of the channel and pinned as well. From there, people can discuss and fine tune the idea. The creator of the suggestion has access to pin things in the channel. After a certain amount of discussion and consideration, when a conclusion is reached, the mods can archive the channel using another command. It will be sent to an archive (or deleted).
TL;DR:
I believe this system is good as it allows for discussion, but also keeps the discussion in Discord.
Possible flaws
Fine tuning
You could fine tune this in several ways, some of which I touched on above.
I hope you like the suggestion.
Have the bot to auto-add upvote/downvote emojis to Issue Opened messages in the #meta Discord channel.
Not many people on the server actually use GitHub, can be bothered to go on here and comment, or actually know how to use GitHub. Adding reaction emojis in the channel will allow mods to quickly gauge the community's views on a suggestion, much like the old #suggestions, whilst still having the ability to make the final say in things and discuss them further on here. On here it is very much a few people contributing to changes affecting 1000 people, whereas it used to be upwards of 40 people.
I believe that a template system for the issues on this repository would aid in the lowering of time required to create an issue and, moreover, mean that the required detail is present in more cases.
There could be multiple of these templates, for example one for 'Feature Requests'.
Fortnite is a massive multiplayer online video game released in July 2017, developed by Epic Games. The game includes three different game modes released as early access: Save the World, Battle Royale, and most recently, Creative. Fortnite Battle Royale is the free 100-player PvP mode in Fortnite. One giant map, a battle bus, building and destructible environments combined with intense PvP combat; the last one standing wins; and Save the World a cooperative shooter-survival game with up to 4-man squad to fight off husks and defend mission objectives with fortifications and defenses. Along with the arrival of Season 7, Creative mode was introduced. For the first time, players could create their own islands with provided prefabs, devices, and standard Battle Royale weapons and items- your island, your friends, your rules.
Fortnite Battle Royale is available on Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS and most modern Android devices while Save the World is only available on PC and consoles platforms (except Nintendo Switch).
As of November 2018 the game has over 200 million registered players. Additionally, Fortnite has won the title for most concurrent players exceeding 10.7 million users online at the same time
Instead of users constantly posting twitter links into #overflow from this user implement webhook instead
Add a webhook for users @bbclauraK and @preston for now into #overflow ideally they'd go into #politics but that isn't likely to happen. Happy to add others
There should be a new channel created which would be used to discuss technology.
Currently, there is nowhere to suitably discuss technology. At the moment tech discussions are mostly done in #general; however, it's evident that not all members are as enthusiastic as others about the subject. This means that for those people, general is clogged with discussions they don't care about.
Create a new channel, #Tech.
Bring back ?suggest REE
Dave was banned a long time ago. Permanent bans serve no purpose; we all know that Dave has alts, and, with all the due respect to the Mod team, trying to ban them all would be fruitless. In his Open Letter To CD, I believe he makes some excellent points about bans and highlights some issues, and has been ignored by the admins. Personally, I, and others, believe that Dave should be given a second chance, and unbanned.
Currently I find the 'CyberStart' category to be utterly useless due to the lack of any current parts of the course. Combined with the addition of the 'CyberStart Elite' category I believe it would be appropriate to move it far lower or, in fact, remove it. When discussing the course people tend to use #general and so I therefore find it inappropriate for it to continue to be located in its current position.
Instead of having the bot delete every message in the channel and resend every single embed, why aren't we just editing the embeds in the messages? Constantly having unreads every time something changes is really annoying, and doesn't serve a purpose of "prompts you to read the new thing" because there's no indication of what changed
Elite is important. It is too low.
Move the Elite category to above 100 Percent
Not Applicable
Stop the removal of poll suggestions ever week, as there is little purpose to the purging every week. Polls is used in such a manner that shouldn’t and doesn’t require it to be purged weekly
Stop the constant purging.

For the current channels of #announcments #readme and #meta there is no way to hide these in a category. It would be beneficial to be able to collapse these into a group to save on space when they are rarely updated.
For whatever reason, it appears that, even after my sustained attempts, the Really Awesome CTF is not yet in the friends of cd channel while many other "CTF"s of lesser quality (
"challenges, "PizzaCTF") are allowed. I see no reason and have not been given a reason it should not be in there.
Add https://discord.gg/CzqnHde to friends of cd.
The fact that there isn't clear criteria to get into the affiliate channel doesn't help this matter. This is somewhat unrelated and perhaps calls for another issue entirely.
Tre is sad he doesn't get a #tech and when Tre's sad I'm sad and that's bad
Give the man a #tech
Pretty please
Discuss the possibility of me becoming sudo
egirl role pls
Bring back !urban and !rank as they were useful in conversations ongoing in general at times. If the removal of commands was necessary then why are others such as !neveragoodtime still allowed during conversations.
we need a channel
give us a channel

The use of GitHub labels could be beneficial to this repository - for example in the case of #207 a "sudo application" label could be introduced, allowing for discussion of whether a user is a good fit for sudo etc whilst allowing people to filter out these issues if they desire not to see them.
Discuss, and potentially add, various labels to the github repository
Weebs are slowly taking over
eliminate all the weebs or send them back to their homeland
any message with the word 'tiktok' gets deleted. this is highly annoying and i feel like there is no actual reason to do that? like i think it was hahah funny back in the day but now its actually kinda annoying when you wanna talk ab tiktok or even mention it
change the dyno perm
no
Looking through recent pings for Community Developer I can confirm that non of them are worth the ping.
It's been made clear that the reason the role is pingable is in the event of an emergency, but I can see no serious usage of the role ping.
I propose that we make the Community Developer role not pingable because so far all it has been used for is spam and ping abuse. Instead, to get the attention of the developers, an @everyone
ping should be used in the #developer-general
channel.
It has been clear for some time now that the active part of the community is not happy with the moderators/admins decisions and modifications to the server. For example, the meta is a brilliant idea in theory, yet the problems that arise with it include the fact that many people don't have github accounts and can't be bothered to make them and there isn't an issue template that can be used so some people don't really know how to put across their point in a valid manner. The worst problem however, comes back down to the moderators (as usual.) The whole point of this meta is for people to put forward their ideas and opinions on the server and for the community to discuss such issues. However, whenever anyone puts forward a point that the moderators disagree with, the issue gets instantly closed. This defeats the purpose of a centralised hub for the community to discuss their issues and opinions on stuff as we (the community) don't get a chance to discuss when the issues get closed as soon as a moderator sees them. This has been addressed by a few other people in CD (see #204 (comment) for an example) and was also partially addressed in Dave's letter to CD (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uE4YBW2pJPk7Cm5l4TaRdR5aY0JaeuSDwYcXG1YLg8c/edit).
The issue is mainly due to shortcut, just look at all the recent issues that have been closed, many of them (excluding troll ones) have the initial post and maybe 1 other community member who has commented on the issue and then have the closing message from shortcut, where he completely shuts the idea down before it can even be debated by the community! This isn't a personal dig at shortcut, but ever since Aur0ra handed ownership of the server to shortcut temporarily (although it's been like 4 months now), the server has started going very downhill. The community is always annoyed with the moderators decisions, because they're very inconsistent, the server moderation is extremely tight now (some people would say we have Nazi mods) and this whole suggestions/meta/polls issue recently has pushed people over the edge.
We just want our opinions to be addressed, and we want to moderators to listen and act on our opinions rather than just ignore them and sometimes even delete the evidence of our requests (in polls.) The server is turning into the original collm109 server again, and nobody enjoyed that one...
Also I don't expect my comments to cause any change, because the same old bullshit will just happen to me and my issue will be closed as soon as it is seen by shortcut.
^^ That is the motherf**kin' tea, sisters
Some people are even calling for a third revolution, we shall see...
What are opinions on implementing a contributor license agreement enforced using CLA assistant?
On the one hand, it could help prevent situations where there are debates over things like code ownership, but it could also be seen as bureaucratic busy-bodying.
I don't really have a strong opinion either way, and I'd be interested to hear what people have to say. No changes are currently planned with regards to this.
It would probably be helpful to have a list of server emojis in MISCELLANEOUS.md; ideally with names and images.
Ana very good person and would bring good benefits and diversity to the root team
It may become apparent at some time either in the past, present or future to members that admins are no loner performing their duties as expected. Instead of leaving the decision of when to step down purely a speculative issue for the member concerned or the server owner be able to open an issue of no confidence within a admin to ascertain if they command the support of the server.
This obviously should only be allowed when there is due cause for concern and not as a joke to annoy members in the server.
Give trusted at level ~20 or so, unless the user has been exempt from trusted for whatever reason
Elite has it's own category which is... why? Links back to the other issue made, it's in an awkward position away from everything else on the channel list.
Move Elite channels into the CyberStart category.
Nuh uh
At this point, the auto reaction to illegal and child is unfunny and occasionally irritating. It serves no purpose in my mind.
Remove the auto reaction.
An informal poll in #polls seemed to suggest there is support for this issue.
A large part of the appeal of using the suggestions channel for polls was that it was right up at the top. Everyone saw what you posted, and could easilly respond to it. Having it down at the bottom of the channel list means that it's just not visible. This would be fine, except it entirely defeats the point a channel that works around being visible; why use polls when you could just ask in #general? One of the first points raised by many users when this split to /meta happened was that they wished #polls was higher up that that seemed to be entirely ignored until people gave up asking because the staff team seemed to not care?
Please disable :quotes in general
It spams chat too much and there's a reason we have #overflow or #bot-commands
Block it in general
Please for the sake of anyone wanting to actually use general
If you have an emoji suggestion, add it in the comments below as well as its name, and we can then PR and vote on appropriate ones. Please make sure they all fit our rules and don't have any NSFW or discriminatory content!
Enjoy 😄 We look forward to seeing new suggestions!
We should probably have a programming language for this repo, one with a nice colour/entertaining name.
A list of supported languages and colours can be found here: https://github.com/ozh/github-colors
And no, we're not using BF.
There are files in CyberDiscovery/cyberdisc-bot that should be moved here, for the following reasons:
.security.txt/SECURITY.md: Security policies regarding bugs in code affect not just the bot, but every community repository.
CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md: Likewise, a code of conduct would be applicable to all projects, and not just the Discord bot.
As of this moment, there are 2 open issues which are applications for the Sudo role. Whilst it is great to see people keen to put their name forward, as far as I am aware, official proceedings to select a new Sudo have not begun. These issues are people trying to apply to a currently non-existent vacancy. It also clutters the meta issues.
Do not allow any Sudo applications at the current time. If and when the process begins, have a designated system for applying to be a Sudo. My current suggestion would be a form with questions to answer which is then placed in a read-only channel (this is only a suggestion, other options exist). This separates the matter from any other process. This process should not begin until after exams at a minimum, and applications should only be accepted in a certain time period.
I am in no way criticising those who have already submitted applications, I just feel a fair and timely process should be used since this will benefit applicants, admins and other server members.
Good Evening Fellow Cyberists!
It is with remorse I have to inform all members that the user behind the name of 'teamshortcut' refuses to alter his nickname to 'arron' in order to reflect his government name given at birth. As a valued member of this holy server, I know that this is injustice and must be changed at once; many other members of this valuable server might also be in agreement with me - if you are please comment '#arronNotTeamshortcut' as this will ensure I know I have your support during this treacherous time.
Thank you all, and I wish you a blessed evening!
Best,
Maisha
please unmute rejoiners aka me
ok so whenever some people leave and rejoin they get automuted. why
fix whatever dyno/mee6 setting it is. i think its mee6 bc thats how level roles are persistent so like maybe it automuted but idk
this isnt that major at all just a bit off.
inb4 maisha just stop leaving literally every 20 seconds you cause roots and sudos hell
ty xx
It's not June anymore, so we should probably switch the icon back? I'd make a PR but it's a pain on mobile.
Whilst this new feature should work much better and is, the whole point of #polls was to be a spammy area for users. This can't happen due to the restriction on the trusted role which few people have, also due to the low position of #polls this is likely to be more widely used by people instead.
If the rank of trusted as given out more widely or the restriction was lifted this would likely cause less issues.
Not sure how popular or unpopular this is going to be, but here it goes.
Right now, we have the Quote Czar role, where people can post quotes of messages that they find funny in #quotes. I don't think this is a particularly fair system, as it is quite subjective and also requires you to have the role in the first place. With the role having no set criteria, those without it are kind of left in the dark as to how they should obtain it, and consequently can't have anything to do with quotes. As with the subjectiveness, well... it's subjective - if someone finds something insanely funny, yet no one else does, it could still end up in quotes. Not the best system.
A few bots, like R Danny, allow for a starboard. If you star a message X times or more, it is automatically posted in a channel. This seems like a fairer system to implement - it means genuinely interesting and funny things are posted as opposed to whatever a czar happens to see and chuckle at.
If you're opposed to R Danny, we could always make a PR for the CD bot. But I think this is a better system overall.
In response to issue #206 , I wrote the following comment:
tldr: introducing a new Root and new Sudo(s) could help with the current issues.
Of course, in response to @teamshortcut, it would be a challenging process but I feel the server is reaching a point where this is required. I'm certain that server members would be willing to consult and participate in this process.
I want to clarify that this suggestion does not suggest any changes to current admins, only the introduction of new ones.
could we ban any discussion of apple and how its bad its getting boring
delete any messages with 'apple' in it
yes
For whatever reason, github issues on this repo seem to have jumped to #200+; #24 - #199 just don't seem to exist? This is somewhat confusing and I'm wondering as to whether there is a reason.
Address why this happens, and possibly revert numbering system back to normal
Can we have a webhook for https://twitter.com/britainelects added to #overflow so we can get that sweet sweet live results:tm: for things as they happen?
More transparency on how #meta works
Up until recently I was unclear on how #meta works, and I am still a bit confused to an extent.
This is probably a sentiment shared by others.
Solution: Extend #readme to have clear instructions on how #meta works.
