darkmodewallpaper's Issues

Full screen-to-Home Screen Wallpaper Display Bug

Details: Pixel 5 | Android 12 | Pixel Launcher | 3-Button Navigation (No gestures)

I encountered a strange glitch when I was using the NewPipe app and exiting from full screen mode. When holding the phone horizontally and tapping the home button that appears while in full screen watching a video, the wallpaper will glitch and be displayed horizontally on the vertical home screen instead. I could only fix it by reselecting the image I use for the day or night background. (Whichever one I'm using at the time)

I did some more testing by enabling the "allow home screen rotation" option in system settings and found that the set image does not display properly.

Usually when using a normal home screen wallpaper and enabling the previously-mentioned setting and rotating the phone horizontally while on the home screen, the phone will take a horizontal cutout of the vertical orientation of the home screen picture being used and display that.

However, when rotating the phone while using this wallpaper changer, it rotates the wallpaper you chose and displays it horizontally instead. It also takes a second to load and will display incorrectly if you rotate the phone before it finishes loading.

Q: possible to scroll image to choose crop location?

Usually my wallpapers are wider than the phone screen. I only use a single home panel (nothing to swipe to left or right) so I scroll the wide image until I have a crop that I want (for the static wallpaper).

It seems that DarkModeLiveWallpaper always centers a given image. Is that the case or can I left/right scroll the imported image somehow?

White sliders in dark mode

Hello, thanks for your app.
I don't know if you know, but the scrolling sliders in dark mode stay white like in light theme.

Light theme:

Dark theme:

I'm sorry if I wasted your time.

Unlock not detected

Sometimes the lock screen wallpaper stays visible after unlocking the device. Only when scrolling the home page is the unlock detected by onOffsetsChanged

The cause is that the ACTION_USER_PRESENT broadcast is not received. Presumably because the device has already been unlocked when the broadcast receiver was registered.

Zoom effect bug

Hi.
I noticed a minor bug in the app's operation

I'll try to be as specific as possible even if the bug is minor.

Device:
Xiaomi Redmi note 10 pro,
Android 11, Miui 12.5.3.0 RKFMIXM.

Launcher:
Nova launcher prime. 7.0.34

Imported wallpaper immediately after first launch.

Problem:
I noticed the wallpapers were slightly off center, leaning towards the right side of the screen

This broke pretty much the entire app afterwards. No matter what you do. Remove the imported wallpaper and select a new one from the gallery, it was still off centered.
To confirm that this is a bug, I repeated everything I did during setup:

โ€ข Imported current wallpaper at the initial prompt.
โ€ข Turned off "use day time image" in night time settings.
โ€ข Selected a new dark mode wallpaper from gallery.
โ€ข Turned on zoom effect (the real culprit here after investigation)
โ€ข Applied as home screen wallpaper.

After successfully being applied, the wallpaper was shifted slightly to the right. And the zoom effect didn't work. I am positive either nova launcher or Miui has something to do with this. But I disabled nova 7's wallpaper zoom effects to make sure it didn't conflict with dark mode live wallpaper. And it still happened.

I fixed it by clearing the app data and restarting the initial setup process. This time, selecting a wallpaper from the gallery instead and disabling zoom effect.
The wallpapers look and change fine now.

Conclusion:
The zoom effect feature is bugged on my device.
And possibly could be on other phones as well.

Thanks and I hope I didn't write too much ๐Ÿ™‚
This is actually my first issue on GitHub. Heck, the first comment I've ever typed on GitHub. So I have no idea how things work here.

Hope you had a splendid day.

The last card on the main page is blocked

Describe the bug

Dear developer!
In the process of using, I found a bug in layout / display. As shown in the figure below, on the main page, the last card seems to be blocked by its border, and this card is not scrollable horizontally so it appears that I could not see the blocked elements fully. This may be an adaptation problem. I suspect it is because display and font size are set to large (mainly due to display size).
Because of some problems with my eyesight, I often use the largest font and display.
103165857-dbaf8580-4857-11eb-9e22-120ae1901389

App version is 1.1.2, my mobile phone is Google Pixel 2, and the screen resolution setting is 1920* 1080. And my font size and display size are the largest ! ! ! Also, my Android system version is 10.0.
The above is a description of the problem. The overall experience of the software is good. You can see that the design is very attentive. Thank you very much for the efforts of the developers all the time. I hope to receive a reply. Thank you so much!!

Expected behavior

I hope that I can see all of the elements fully on the main page, and in this circumstance, the last card in it seems to be blocked.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. use the largest font and display in the display setting
  2. open this app for the first time and scroll all the way down to the bottom,
  3. this error could be seen

Slideshow support

Hello, thank you for the app
It's great that someone finally came to that idea

Please, if it will be possible, in the future add separate slideshow support for light and for dark themes
(As example, user chooses one folder that contains images for light theme and the other folder with images for dark theme)

Good luck to you

Wallpaper Animation Laggy/Choppy

the wallpaper animation (zoom in) while sliding down the slide-down menu is choppy and irritating.
A option for disabling it would be nice.
My setup: Lg V20 Lineage Os 18 de-googled

application size

The apk has 8 mb. It's huge for a wallpaper application imho.
Maybe we can turn on minifyEnabled for release.

Flickering after unlock

A short flicker happens after going from lockscreen to homescreen. It is only noticeable if the transition animation is activated and the wallpapers have certain colors.
After the animation ended, the app calculates the colors of the homescreen wallpaper (#28) and notifies Android about the new colors. Android reacts to the new colors with a flicker of the whole UI.

Very laggy animation when switching background/lauchner pages

When swiping right/left on my launcher the background screen follows, but:

  • not nearly as smooth as with a native background image
  • when I swipe fast, it seems to start only when my swipe actually already finsied, so it "lags behind".almost always this feels like no animation at all.
  • even when I swipe slowly it really lags behind up to one second or so

This is blocking me from using it.

Doesn't work in Samsung DeX

I tried to use the app for changing my Samsung DeX wallpaper, but the changes don't take effect.
On standard phone home screen, everything works.

Device: Samsung Galaxy S20 FE SM-G780G

OS: Android 12

App version: 1.6.1

Expected Behavior: Being able to change the wallpaper in Samsung DeX.

Option to blur the wallpaper

Could you please add the option to blur the wallpaper like Muzei?
Some of the wallpapers I have are well suited if blurred.

Micro screen

When returning from "micro screen" (one-hand screen/mini-view) to normal screen size, the wallpaper does not immediately scale up to normal screen size.
A scroll is needed to initiate a redraw for the correct size

Material You color extraction freezes

When using this app, Material You freezes on trying to extract wallpaper colors. Setting a fixed theme color does work.

I also saw this happening with other live wallpapers e.g. Material Island. Is this an Android 12 Beta 3.1 bug or is Android expecting any data via API that is not delivered? Google's own live wallpapers manage to pass the correct wallpaper colors to Material You.

Feature request: profiles

It would be nice to be able to save the current settings+wallpapers into a profile, and quickly apply profiles.

If loading profiles would be possible through intents, they could then be controlled by extrnal apps (e.g. based on location)

Lockscreen text and notifications not changing colour according to wallpaper

Hey, Thanks for the app..its brilliant.
Just a minor hiccup. I'm using note 9 from Samsung and i have a very white wallpaper for the day and a dark grey one for the night
The app works perfectly to change the wallpaper, but the lockscreen text doesn't change from white to black duing day in order to be readable.
I tried setting the wallpaper individually without the app and it changes colour. When i go to the lockscreen settings on the phone, with the app enabled, the wallpaper doesn't show up. Is the app putting the wallpaper in a different directory.? I don't know okay.. im not a developer..but this is an annoying issue...would be glad if you look into.

Feature Request: Animated GIF wallpaper support

Hello :)

As it is in the current F-Droid "1.4.11 (43)" release, you can load a GIF image as a wallpaper, but sadly it doesn't animate. Is it easy to implement? If it's viable I would like to request it ๐Ÿ™‚

I don't think it's something we can fix.

Background auto start needed?

When i go to ultra battery saver and then exits that mode, wallpaper is gone. I need to open the app and re apply the wallpaper.

It's possible to fix that adding an "background auto start" feature? Or it's a MiUI issue? Is there a workaround available?

My phone is a Redmi Note 11 with HyperOS.

Features request

  • Hope that all imported pictures will not be deleted automatically, and a list will be generated for quick replacement
  • Quick exchange of pictures between the lock screen and the home screen
  • Material Design

Thanks

There seems to be a perfect solution in the new version, maybe I will wait better than ask questions

Import wallpaper failes on Android 13 (Tiramisu)

Cannot import wallpaper on Android 13 (Tiramisu) Beta

The permission Manifest.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE is required to import the wallpaper with WallpaperManager.getDrawable().
On Android 13 with targetSdkVersion set to 33 this permission cannot be requested anymore (if it was requested in an earlier version it does persist though).
Instead of the permission dialog, the user sees nothing and the permission request is automatically denied.
So the getDrawable() call would fail with java.lang.SecurityException: Permission android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE denied for package

High memory usage

I've started using this up this week and noticed that the average memory use over 3 hours, as well as immediate usage by the service, is 350MB. I think this is rather excessive.

I killed and restarted the app, and it went to ~130MB, which is still high imo. But it also goes up by 15-25MB every time the dark/light mode is switched.

Try:

  1. Set the mode of wallpaper changing to "Follow system"
  2. Kill the app and restart it
  3. Enable the phone's Android developer options
  4. View the Running services
  5. Observe the value of DarkModeLiveWallpaper
  6. Switch between dark and light mode in Android (I use a quick settings tile)

The value of memory usage goes up and stays.

Also, I'm not using any effects (zoom, scroll, color overlay), and lock screen settings are not separate from wallpaper settings.

Anyway, thanks for the app. Cool little thing otherwise.

It would be nice to have the app set a certain wallpaper at 7:00, have it change to another at 8:00, then change at 5:00, and change again at 10:00. Could a feature that allows multiple wallpapers to be queued up and applied at certain times be considered?

"Wallpaper & Style" (Material You) wrong lockscreen preview

Only the home screen wallpaper is shown in the "Wallpaper & Style" section in Android settings.
Android only uses one WallpaperEngine to generate one image for both previews. Therefore it is currently impossible to show both home and lockscreen wallpaper correctly.
If this were to change in the future, the detection of home or lock screen would need to be done here together with fixedConfig variable:

When setting a wide image it is always centered, but sometimes the point of interest in it is not at the center.
I'd like to suggest the ability to move the image around before setting it - similar to how the stock android wallpaper setter has panning, etc.

Android 9

Android 9 has support for system dark mode (even though the API is a bit different maybe, I'm not sure), do you think it would be possible to add support for it too?

(It should be possible because I've seen other app do that, but I'd prefer to use yours because it's without ads, unlike the other.)
