Rocketry Avionics Project

The Rocketry Avionics project set out to design a rocketry avionics flight board that could record data in flight, perform data processing, and control functions in flight on the rocket. Sensors that measure barometric pressure, acceleration, and gyroscopic forces, as well as GPS position, can provide valuable data for a rocket flight both in the atmosphere as well as in a vacuum if the rocket was capable of such altitude. Processing of that data can allow for functionality of onboard systems such as recovery which must deploy parachutes at proper times to ensure the safe recovery of the rocket. Onboard cameras can provide invaluable data for post-flight system analysis.

Acknowledgments

Our families
For putting up with our long hours we needed to dedicate to our project.

PJRC - Teensy
The Teensy microcontroller platform was what we based our Flight Controller which ran the entire system.

Adafruit - Sensors
Without Adafruit’s sensor breakout boards hardware, software, and documentation ecosystem we would have required much more than one semester to create a sensor suite to meet our requirements.

Runcam - Cameras
Runcam’s Split 4 camera system performed flawlessly in flight and captured amazing HD video that both shows the stunning launch event as well as very beneficial for our post-flight review.

Eggtimer Rocketry
The Eggtimer Quantum electronic recovery boards that we depended on to deploy the recovery system worked flawlessly in flight which allowed us to recover the rocket, our custom flight boards, data that was on the custom flight boards, cameras, and essentially ensured that we had a safe flight.

Aerotech Consumer Aerospace
Manufactured the J435 solid rocket motor that allowed us to send our project 970 meters into the air.

Rocketry Organization of California (ROC)
Provided our launch site and flight waiver necessary for our flight.

National Association of Rocketry (NAR)
Provided the guidelines for safely launching high powered rockets.

PlatformIO libraries not available

VSCode says that IntelliSense cannot resolve path to libraries for use in code. Current configuration points to ../include directory which exists on the repo. Not sure if we should add standard headers to this folder or if we should add them from PlatformIO 'libraries' tab
