This is the favicon used on FAC
Do we need to optimise it at all?
It looks like other sites use apple-touch-icon images as well - I've not used those before, is it worth also adding one of those? Anyone icon savvy?
Is this website still a project that I can contribute with?
Currently the page is just lorem ipsum text.
We should put the content into the /site bootstrapped version for now
Here's a link to get some inspiration:
https://github.com/foundersandcoders/oursite/issues
I believe the idea is that whenever a pull request is merged there should be at least one issue that is solved by merging the PR, and if there is not then one should be created.
One way would be to just have a link to our meetup page, perhaps we can use the meetup api to display our meetups
In our readme we currently have "CSS (written using SASS)" - I thought we decided on our call to use plain css, or did I misunderstand?
There's a PR here - I've initialised a basic starting jekyll app that builds locally. I've not added a template or anything like this as I believe we're building from scratch. There's some basic starting text but it's very bare bones & gives a starting point to get going.
Edit: this is now resolved | The only oddity is that the package.json in our /site folder seemed to trip jekyll/bundler over & so I renamed it before doing the install. It would be good if we could check whether it's necessary to have that file though as future jekyll builds may also fall over it - sounds like a new issue so created it here. Out of interest this was the log file generated (not on the branch I pushed though).
I used these resources to get going:
https://24ways.org/2013/get-started-with-github-pages/
https://help.github.com/articles/setting-up-your-github-pages-site-locally-with-jekyll/
https://jekyllrb.com/docs/quickstart/
There's probably also a README + resources list for Jekyll to come :D
I'm guessing that we don't because http://codingforeveryone.github.io/site/ seems to work fine...? A few tutorials about setting up Jekyll / pages mention specific methods by which to create a branch & suggest having a 'gh-pages' branch. I suppose that as the bootstrap site works this isn't necessary?
At the moment codingforeveryone.github.io is a 404 page - Do we mind if people are able to see our work in progress site, or do we want to keep it hidden?
If we don't mind what people see at codingforeveryone.github.io while it is in development then we can close this issue.
If we do mind what people see then we'll need a placeholder site at that URL while the main Jekyll site is being constructed. We could potentially route people to the proof of concept site, but I had an idea for a Jekyll solution:
We could set up a basic 1 page index.html and set it up to look something like our PoC site, with links to Meetup and Gitter. If we use a different Jekyll layout for that 1 page placeholder then while we work on the main site the 1 pager will be unaffected. We could also have a homepage.html or similar which could serve as the in-development site's index page which can just be renamed & rewired when we we want to publish the main site.
I'd suggest main page links should be to Gitter & Meetup
The contacts page should be a more comprehensive list detailing gitter, github, chatrooms, phone, email, twitter, facebook - others?
Get jekyll to pull in the resources md pages that are already in the repos, to avoid having to maintain two resource lists
Outline what we're aiming to achieve with the site.
Potentially as a temporary measure - We could retain coloured images & update them when the foundersandcoders.com is redesigned
Possibly we could match fonts as well?
