citygram's Issues

Save publishers master list in repository.

The list of publishers is currently downloaded from https://www.citygram.org/publishers.json, and then inserted into the database when you run bundle exec rake publishers:download. Unfortunately, the list on the internet isn't complete, and appears to change over time, which makes it impossible to setup reproducible environments. Save this file in the repository, and modify publishers.rake to build the database from the local file.

Update SMS message & Digest message text

Use Case Review: Restaurant Data

Should we add restaurant data to Citygram?
Would you want alerts after a nearby restaurants gets an inspection? Who would (Citizens, restaurant owners?)

Review this use case by identifying specific user types and why they would want new restaurant inspections / scores / or violation alerts. "I am a ________, and I want to [do _____________] so that I can ____________." These stories are jumping off points for new designs of the user experience and features.

Would you only want to be alerted if they went down? or every time? How often does a restaurant get inspected? .https://github.com/codefordurham/Durham-Restaurants

Update Installation directions

Some people have trouble installing vagrant - it doesn't always detect that you don't have virtualbox. Modify the install instructions in the readme to include installing vagrant and virtulabox.

Use Case Review: permit data for Durham

Review use case by identifying specific user types and why they would want permit alerts. "I am a ________, and I want to [do _____________] so that I can ____________." These stories are jumping off points for new designs of the user experience and features.

Develop New Use Case: City County Meetings Agendas

A better system of notifying when a meeting is to take place and what is to be discussed. There are many departments and boards and commissions do not give easy access to this information. Agenda are very structured pdf documents that machines could read much easier and digest better.

Open Brain storm for new use cases for City Gram

  • When else would you want alerts from the city - what events would be most valuable to you?
  • What are areas of interest for you in the city? Near your home? near your work? on your normal route to work?
  • What other situations would you want to track an area of special interest?

We currently have two datasets integrated with citygram:

  • Building Permits in Raleigh and Cary.
  • Police reports for Cary, Raleigh, and Durham
What other data are you interested in? See other comments below for ideas.

If you are in a group of 2 or more, consider doing a brainstorming and prioritization discussions and documenting your results in a comment below.

Bug: points don't appear on map unless you zoom out.

Example:

  • Go to citygram.org
  • Pick 'research triangle park'
  • Pick 'Building Permits'.
  • In the map, pick 'Durham' (upper right hand corner).
  • No points appear on the map.
  • Zoom out (click - in upper left).
  • Points appear on the map.

This happens for Raleigh too.
