Both mozilla and google have support for VAPID. The use of vapid should be optional.
The current draft for the spec can be found here: https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-thomson-webpush-vapid-02

In the case of google this means the api key wont be necessary anymore when vapid is used. @see https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2016/07/web-push-interop-wins

I think this issue similar to web-push-libs/web-push-php#12

  Problem 1
    - Installation request for cmnty/push ^0.0.1 -> satisfiable by cmnty/push[0.0.1].
    - cmnty/push 0.0.1 requires ext-crypto * -> the requested PHP extension crypto is missing from your system.

even with
sudo apt-get install php7.0-crypto

Refactor the crypto parts to use strict type checking / type declarations. Write specifications in phpspec for every class.

Also ensure every object is valid on creation. Throw appropriate exceptions otherwise.
