This API provides updated real-time data on coronavirus cases from the worldometers page and other important websites, provided by the most reputable organizations and statistical offices in the world.

📝 Brief Information on COVID19

How dangerous is the virus? There are three parameters to understand in order to assess the magnitude of the risk posed by this novel coronavirus:

How contagious is the COVID19? (Ro) The attack rate or transmissibility (how rapidly the disease spreads) of a virus is indicated by its reproductive number (Ro, pronounced R-nought or r-zero), which represents the average number of people to which a single infected person will transmit the virus.

  • WHO's estimated (on Jan. 23) Ro to be between 1.4 and 2.5.
  • Other studies have estimated a Ro between 3.6 and 4.0, and between 2.24 to 3.58.
  • Preliminary studies had estimated Ro to be between 1.5 and 3.5.
  • An outbreak with a reproductive number of below 1 will gradually disappear.
  • For comparison, the Ro for the common flu is 1.3 and for SARS it was 2.0.

The novel coronavirus' case fatality rate has been estimated at around 2%, in the WHO press conference held on January 29, 2020 . However, it noted that, without knowing how many were infected, it was too early to be able to put a percentage on the mortality rate figure.

  • A prior estimate had put that number at 3%.
  • Fatality rate can change as a virus can mutate, according to epidemiologists.
  • For comparison, the case fatality rate for SARS was 10%, and for MERS 34%.

Incubation Period (how long it takes for symptoms to appear) See full details: COVID-19 Coronavirus Incubation Period

Symptoms of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) may appear in as few as 2 days or as long as 14 (estimated ranges vary from 2-10 days, 2-14 days, and 10-14 days, see details), during which the virus is contagious but the patient does not display any symptom (asymptomatic transmission).

Data for 4/9/20 in JohnsHopkinsDataDailyReport is stale

Today's https://covid19-server.chrismichael.now.sh/api/v1/JohnsHopkinsDataDailyReport query, filtered for the state of Illinois (the only one I've tested) shows no change in the data from the previous day and differs from the numbers displayed on the Johns Hopkins web site https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html and the IDPH site http://www.dph.illinois.gov/topics-services/diseases-and-conditions/diseases-a-z-list/coronavirus as of 4/10/20 @ 7am CST.
Here's a sample of this morning's query:
"Cook, Illinois, US", 10520, 2020-04-09 23:02:37
"DuPage, Illinois, US", 875, 2020-04-09 23:02:37
"Kendall, Illinois, US", 79, 2020-04-09 23:02:37

Wrong data for FatalityRateBySex

As I checked the API docs, the call FatalityRateBySex should return JSON with keys:
Sex, DeathRateConfirmedCases, DeathRateAllCases,
which it does, but in reality they really look more like some other data for FatalityRateByAge, only that the numbers are different.
I believe Worldometer has added another table onto the website and now the this call is not working correctly anymore.

Could this be resolved?

I am very sorry about the situation, as I am aware that there are many people using this API to inform society about COVID19 case numbers.

But even so I am very grateful for the support I received from everyone !!

But you still have the option to use the npm package, if you want.

You would be a racist to call the virus the "Wuhan Virus" or "Wuhan Corona Virus".

It has been noticed that you have called the COVID-19 virus the "Wuhan Virus" across your Readme section.

This has been greatly discouraged to use a location name to name a human transferable disease. Please see link here https://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/notes/2015/naming-new-diseases/en/.

You have developed a very promising API here and I am sure your intention was good, but it would hurt people from China (especially from Wuhan) by calling this virus by this insulting name. None of the Chinese would want the disease to happen, ever! Could you imagine if we call the H1N1 the "American Virus"?

I really wish you could turn your mind around and update all your references in the repo from "Wuhan Virus" or "Wuhan Coronavirus" to its real name "COVID-19". Our enemy is not the Chinese or Wuhanese, our enemy is the virus.

Please address this issue at your earliest convenience.

Can please add Pakistan to country list as well

Covid19 React Project Implementation.

Hello Sir,

I had a query regarding the package implementation. How do I use it in my react project. Like how do I import the package and use it like any other npm package. I see that there are many functionalities that come with the package but there is no code example of as to how we actually implement it in the code. I tried running the functions from my terminal, but it didn't work. Can you please help me with it so that I can quickly proceed with the development. I am eagerly waiting your response.

Can't seem to get :country to work consistently

Hi,

First of all thanks for the API, it looks amazing but I having problem with this particular API /api/v1/ReportsByCountries/:country

It works if I do /api/v1/ReportsByCountries/China
But it crashes if I do /api/v1/ReportsByCountries/Japan or /api/v1/ReportsByCountries/New%20Zealand

I am not sure what "country" strings should we use?

Critical dependency

After installation of the module, my create-react-app crashes with this error in the console:

I am on the latest version (1.1.7), I already uninstalled the node modules and reinstalled them.

Could not find a declaration file for module 'covid19-api'. 'projectdir/node_modules/covid19-api/src/api/index.js' implicitly has an 'any' type. Try npm install @types/covid19-apiif it exists or add a new declaration (.d.ts) file containingdeclare module 'covid19-api';ts(7016)
