kernel dependencies not always built

Using the nano-package-series branch (haven't tried the others) I found that sometimes the recipes to pull in the nvidia drivers and device tree were not always triggered. Building from scratch is OK, so 'make clean all' succeeds. However, for instance, 'make clean linux' fails.

I've fixed this issue in my fork. Have a look at this branch: https://github.com/hmbedded/buildroot/commits/nano-package-series-hmbedded-mods where I built upon nano-package-series. Also this branch: https://github.com/hmbedded/buildroot/commits/l4t-32.5-jetson-nano where I've consolidated the commits and also upgraded to LT4 32.5.

I found that my board is a rev A02, so i need to use tegra210-p3448-0000-p3449-0000-a02 instead of tegra210-p3448-0000-p3449-0000-b00.

I modified defconfg and changed device tree name in tegra210 package and genimage.cfg.

Issues with linux-nvgpu package hash

There are a couple of issues with the linux-nvgpu package hash:

  1. The package filenames have underscores instead of hyphens and this leads to buildroot not being able to find the .hash file. This generates a warning but the build continues.
  2. On the feat/jetson-nano-support-latest branch fixing the filenames then results in a build error because the hash value is incorrect.

tegra_udrm module not found on startup

Seeing the runtime error on start up:

modprobe: can't load module tegra_udrm (kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/tegra_udrm/tegra-udrm.ko

Confirmed this does not affect the NVIDIA-provided SD card image.

To investigate:

  • hard-coded paths in a configuration file somewhere that expects the target kernel directory to contain -tegra. Official kernel build instructions use LOCALVERSION=-tegra, which generates a target directory structure like /lib/modules/4.9.140-tegra vs /lib/modules/4.9.140, generated by the Buildroot build.
  • kernel modules needing to load at boot. Part of the configuration work left to do.

L4T kernel fails to build on hosts with GCC 10.x

Fails during linking stage due to GCC 10's default of -fno-common. See GCC 10 porting guide.
