ocr-ios-example's Introduction

OCR-iOS-Example

A simple example of how to do optical character recognition (OCR) on iOS.

About

This was a little project I did one night to see how well OCR performed on the iPhone using Tesseract (an OCR library). Luckily for me, some people have already done the heavy lifting (compliled the libraries for iOS, made wrappers, etc). Here, I've simply brought that all together in project that should have you going with minimal setup.

Setup

  1. Clone this repo.
  2. Go to https://code.google.com/p/tesseract-ocr/downloads/list to download a language dataset.
  3. Place your decompressed tesseract data in a folder called tessdata like this:

That's it! The source code shouldn't be too difficult to follow. Feel free to do whatever you like with this.

Question

Your app looks interesting. I was wondering if you have any experience preparing images to OCR stone. I basically want to OCR grave markers and try and grab as much good data out of them as possible. Do you think I could make that happen with tesseract-ocr?

crop image automatically

How can i make fixed frame for cam viewLayer and crop automatically (like 100px X 320px) to capture only the plate? its can make better recognition of the number.

Doesn't work

hey man, does this even work? I ran it on a few pages and It either returns nothing or just some gibberish. Do you have a sample image to demonstrate that it actually works? Thanks!
