mediarenamer's Issues

Doesn't work in linux

I know this is not a real issue. But I would love this app to work in linux
(maybe it could be ported to mono?)

theTVDB parse throws exception when single series found.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Configure a TVShow to have an exact name
2. Use theTVDB.com parser

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It should find the series. MediaRenamer is unable to find the series

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
SVN latest

Please provide any additional information below.
The XPath for the language appears to be throwing the exception.

Ln 262 of OnlineParseTVDB.cs :
Modify XPath to "//Data/Series/language" corrects the issue.

Rename issue when target file name is the same as source file name, with different capitalization

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Download any movie file, a simple example: "bruno (2009).avi"
2. Try to rename it to "Bruno (2009).avi" (note the capitalization)
3. Observe rename error

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
File is renamed when the only difference is uppercase/lowercase.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Win7 x64, mediarenamer_2.0.1

Please provide any additional information below.
This is not necessarily a bug in mediarenamer, but more a bug in the NTFS
filesystem driver that I believe mediarenamer should account for.
mediarenamer will not be able to successfully capitalize or rename a movie
file unless it first renames the source file to a temporary name, and then
in turn renames the temporary filename to the target filename.

Hope this information helps, don't hesitate to contact me if you have any
questions!

The Office (US) is formatted as "The Office Us"

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Scan something for The Office (US) using the tvdb database.
2. See proposed new filename.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The Office (US) should be the format for the new filename. Instead, it is
"The Office Us".

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
v2 on Windows 7 7100

Please provide any additional information below.

As best I can tell the series is formated correctly on TVDB.

Cheers!

cheers tv series not recognized

What steps will reproduce the problem?
note 1: Take note that my tv series are stored on another computer
seperate from my main workstation.
note 2: option settings are "s<season2>e<episode2><title: - ><title>"
and "tvdb.com".

1. have a folder structure such as "x:\tv series\cheers\season 1\s01e01 -
first episode name.avi".
2. select the folder above
3. start the scan

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
There is a dialog box that pops up asking for me to verrify the series
name as if it doesn't recognize the series based on the folder name. The
folder is already named "Cheers" and "Cheers" showes up in the text area.
When I click ok, the dialog box pops up again sayign it done'st recognize
the series name. I even tried "Cheer" with no luck. I verrified the
spelling (it's a pretty simple world but just in case) and it's correct on
the tvdb.com web site.

The expected result shoudl be that the series is recognized as the rest of
my series have not had this problem (40+ series all stored in a folder
structure as above).

When I click cancel the same dialog box shows up. The only way to close
the dialog box is to move/delete the cheers folder or to close the media
renamer application via the "X" on the top right of the main program
window.

Crashes if file in use

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Sometimes forget torrent still seeding so file in use
2. Try and rename file
3. MediaRenamer crashes instead of showing an error
4. Stop seeding and rename works fine

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expect to see an error instead of crash.

Movie Renaming

Using version 1.3 the Movie renamer seems to want to use the name of the
AVI file instead of the containing folder to rename the file. Renaming the
video file so it can then be renamed seems kinda pointless ;o)

On TV it uses the containing folder name but not on movies.

For example,

I have Flags of our Fathers in I:\\Movies\Flags of Our Fathers\ and the 2
files are called nep-foof1.avi and nep-foof2.avi.

When it attempts to rename them it is searching for nep-foof it seems.

Error Parsing File, Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Attempt to parse a file with the following name:

3.10 to Yuma (2007).mkv
brooklyns finest.mkv
zeitgeist final edition.avi
several others....

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I expect that the file will either be found or not but it throws the exception:

Error Parsing file<Filepath>

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
MediaRenamer
  at
MediaRenamer.Movies.OnlineParserTMDB.getMovieData(Movie & movie)
  at MediaRenamer.Movies.Movie.parseFile(String file)

This is very annoying when trying to parse a large folder of files. I haven't
been able to figure out a pattern to the unparsable movie files. Some have
special characters, some do not. I can list more if it would help.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Sorry I am not a programmer so I hope my description is good enough. When I
rename a file I want it to retain the S01E01 format yet strip out all of the
garbage. What string do I use?
For example my file name is currently -
Battlestar.Galactica.S01E01.33.2004.BluRay.1080p.DTS.x264.dxva-FraMeSToR

I want the output to be -

What Will Parse, What Will Not Parse -- Guidelines

These are some notes on what mediarenamer will parse correctly and what it
will not. I put these together while going through my collection.

I would put these in the Wiki but it doesn't seem like it's open to
editing.

There are probably some implied variants that I'm not listing. The
program's pretty robust.

If the author wants to add this to the wiki, or delete it outright feel
free.

X = variable for episode number.
Y = variable for season number.
No other variables unless stated.

1. Naming Special Series
 A. 00xXX - Works best.
 B. S.XX
 C. 00xXX-XX+1

2. Series Naming
 A. YYxXX or YxX or YYxXX or ...
 B. YXX (sometimes)
 C. SXXEXX
 D. YYxXX-XX+1

3. Series Naming That Doesn't Work
 A. YYXX
 B. X
 C. XX
 D. EpXX
 E. YYxXX-XX+1-XX+2...
 F. YYxXX-XX+<1
 G. Series Y Episode X
 H. Underscores that are connected to the season and episode numbers by
anything other than a space are bad in general. Unless of course you want
to add notes to a specific title, in which case underscores seem to be the
way to do it.

Renames Episodes with a 0Xx0Xa/b Resulting in a Duplicate File Name Error

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Scan a director that has an episode named something like "Series -
01x01a - Show name" and another episode with "Series - 01x01b - Show name"
2. Rename files.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Report an error on both files before renaming occurs. See this program for
an example: http://www.hi-rez.net/TvEpRenamer.1.2.rar.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
v2. Windows 7 Build 7100

Please provide any additional information below.
Great program otherwise, I spent the last hour or so trying to find a
program like this and out of about the half-dozen that I tested this is
the best that I've found.

Extra period in renaming

File name for a Lizzy McGuire show is.
02x02. El_Oro_de_Montezuma (aka El Oro del Diablo).avi

Apparently the lookup fails, and it redoes the file name itself, which
would be ok, except it keeps the . and the _
So the file name works out to be "Lizzy McGuire s02e02 - .
El_Oro_de_Montezuma (aka El Oro del Diablo).avi"

Thanks.

Will not Parse .mpg or .ts as Television Episodes from TVDB.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Parse the file the same as any other tv episode. Doesn't seem to recognize

720p detection and naming?

I was wondering if there is a way to get MediaRenamer to tell the difference
between my SD episodes and 720p episodes and name them as such.
I like to be able to see which of my files are high-def. as I think most people
do.

eg
The.simpsons.s06e01.hdtv.avi
becomes
The Simpsons - S06E01 - Bart Of Darkness

whereas
The.simpsons.s06e01.720p.avi
becomes
The Simpsons - S06E01 - 720p - Bart Of Darkness

At the moment im just separating my files by MKV or AVI into different folders
and then running a different nomenclature on each folder, but surely this is
something which could be automatic?

Renaming language specific subtitle remove the language in the name

First of all, great tool, it's really useful.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Rename a subtitle file of a specific language (ex. 'Alias-5x01.en.srt'
and 'Alias-5x01.fr.srt').

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected = 'Alias - 5x01 - Prophet Five.en.srt' and 'Alias - 5x01 - Prophet
Five.fr.srt'
Returned = both end up as 'Alias - 5x01 - Prophet Five.srt'

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
v2.0.3360.34386 on Windows 7 64 bits.

Please provide any additional information below.

What I would suggest is to be able to add custom 'combined extension' in
the configuration. By example, there could be a field where we could enter
the following : ".en.srt;.fr.srt;.en.sub;.fr.sub". Then, when mediarenamer
see a source filename end with those extensions, it would keep them intact
in the destination filename.

Throws too many Message Boxes

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Scan any not films that aren't resolved by imdb

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Inside the imdb/tmdb parser it fails (can receive a 'your query returned no
results' string from imdb) - then the exception handler throws it to LOG -
which pops up the message box.

Please provide any additional information below.
I rewrote it on my local machine to
a) check both (in order of your selection) resources (IMDB + the other)
b) If it can't find a movie, just skip it.. it could be redirected to a log
list of course

It was hassling me when I had to rename 100s of files

This is a great renamer btw, saved me many hours of work..

Add ability to use custom regular expression for parsing and substitution

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Try to rename a file in the format: <Series> - S01E01 - [720P][x264].mkv
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Ability to keep the remaining portion of the file name.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Windows XP, 2.0b4

Please provide any additional information below.
It would be ideal if there was a way to enter in custom regexp to perform
the rename and also a custom regexp for the replacement.

Having the current default as an available drop down and an option for
manual entry would be one method of providing both basic and advanced
functionality.

Code Submission

I made some changes which I thought may be useful but I couldn't find anywhere
to submit code.

Mods in this patch:
* Movies/OnlineParserTMDB.cs
  - Fixed errors related to movie not found in lookup which causes errors like Issue 38.
* mainForm.cs, mainForm.resx, mainForm.Designer.cs
  - Added a "select found" button to the main form which only selects movies which were found in a lookup.
* Movies/Movie.cs
  - Changed replacement character from '.' to '-'. This was personal preference...
* Movies/SelectMovie.resx
  - Added Keyboard Shortcut to Skip button.

doesn't have a key for the output format

It would be really useful if there was a key of some sort so you know what
options are available for the output format.

Along those lines if possible could you allow the imdbid to be one of the
choices. I use the moving pictures plug-in for Mediaportal and with the
imdbid in the filename I always get the proper match.

Add feature to rename .nfo .tbn etc files

Would it be possible to add an option to rename not just video files but
also any file where you specify the extension. For example if you have .tbn

renamed at the same time as the video file is renamed.

Thanks.

separate files into created subfolders

Firstly, BRILLIANT PROGRAM. A true godsend.

Not exactly an issue, but would love to see a function where a folder
containing many movie files can be broken into subdirectories moved into
Its own folder created with the title
(so that each movie is in its own folder ready to add NFOs and artwork.)

Eg. I scan movies folder which contains 2 files.
c:\movies\title1.avi
c:\movies\title2.avi

and it becomes
c:\movies\<title1> [<year>]\Title1 [<year>].avi
C:\movies\<title2> [<year>]\Title2 [<year>].avi

Also Issue 13 (Recursive \ subfolder scanning.) Is a big one :)

Once again, GREAT WORK.

"The Twilight Zone" translates to "The Twilight Zone (2002)"

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Try to rename the file "The.Twilight.Zone.1x01.Where.Is.Everybody.avi"

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Should output "The Twilight Zone - 1x01 - Where Is Everybody.avi".
Instead, it outputs "The Twilight Zone (2002) - 1x01 - Evergreen.avi"

Apostrophes and Ampersands aren't translated correctly.

When scanning a movie that has either an ampersand or apostrophe (&, ') in the
title causes it to render &#x26; and &#x27; respectively when renamed.

Eg.
Miller's Crossing (1990) > Miller&#x27;s Crossing (1990)
Mum & Dad (2008) > Mum &#x26; Dad (2008)

Parsing of TV Name with <season><title2> Doesn't Work

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Scan episodes with 101 - Pilot
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I would expect the season to be parsed as 1 and the episode to be parsed as
01, but instead, it just puts 0's in for the two fields. I have attached a
screenshot.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Scan completes instantly, no items found

TV Show renamed was working perfectly a few months ago. I just got in the
mood to re-organize some items, and went to scan a few shows (Simpsons,
Weeds, et al) and instead of finding titles, it simple goes from Scanning
to Scan Complete instantly, and finds nothing, no matter what I throw at it.
