By the way, we are testing this on M3.8 and works ok.

The idea with this enhancement is that with a setting like this:
and a custom field with this name and value like Cohort name 1;Cohort name 2; Cohort name3;", this patch allows to add this user to all 3 cohorts Cohort name 1, Cohort name 2andCohort name 3`. All at once. With this minimal change.
We have this in our production instance since we installed this plugin so many years ago. I update with this comment here to refresh this issue and the PR provided to this end. With this comment I think it will be easier to to understand what is reached and how.

the reason why the patch also support dot notation within the regexp is because they also appear in the description:
