Hm, I don't understand why your test with Delphi 10.2.1 + CGE editor has so slow compilation admittedly.

Compiling using Delphi DCC invoked from editor, with Delphi 10.4 or 11.3, was nearly instant in my tests at home. Even when they had to rebuild CGE, and when the CGE was already built -- it was lighting fast. It would be super-weird if Delphi 10.2.1 has such broken command-line compiler, that's bad.

Building using DPROJ gives us less options, and also I see no sensible reason why it would ever be faster -- practically, it should always be equal. any possible difference should not really be noticeable in seconds.

I'll try to reproduce it next week when I'm back home.

It would be beneficial if CastleEngineManifest.xml became CastleEngineManifest.castle-xml as this way Editor could be associated with them and allow seamless integration

There will be changes and renames there caused by https://castle-engine.io/roadmap#_project_settings_editable_using_gui . Yes, it will also get different extension and then could be associated with CGE editor.

I guess my VM could be at fault - I'll have a play

It was my VM that was causing the bad timings

I've cleaned out my Steam Deck (with Win11 Pro for an OS + hooked up to Kbd, Mouse + Monitor) so I've got a proper real machine for some tests. Steam deck is a middling performance PC like this so a reasonable test machine.

As tests on hardware will require the removal of old Delphis I want to write a Delphi wiper app - UnInstall leaves a lot of crap around - all needs removing for proper tests...

There are instructions at https://blogs.embarcadero.com/manual-uninstall-of-rad-studio-delphi-cbuilder-10-4-sydney/ but it misses some stuff.

OK, closing the issue.

Thanks. I recall having troubles switching between CE and non-CE Delphi versions on the same machine, Embarcadero explicitly discourages that (instead recommending new VM for each). The https://blogs.embarcadero.com/manual-uninstall-of-rad-studio-delphi-cbuilder-10-4-sydney/ will be helpful, and if you'll automate and/or extend this process -- all the better.
