Hello, Cameron!
This is about goes16-background.
I'm a complete novice in Linux and I use Manjaro 20.1 KDE Plasma.
First I found himawaripi script and installed it.
I installed it via Pamac. It was
himawaripy-git r155.035b5b40-1
package from the AUR. The installation went smoothly because the package contains all python and other files needed for the script to work.
I used systemd to set the timer and everything was OK - full and smooth automation.
Then I found your goes16-background script on Github.
I could not install python using commands from your instruction, maybe because I'm just a novice, so I downloaded the package from the AUR:
goes16-background-git 0.1-1
First. If I install this package BEFORE himawaripy, it does not work, because does not contain (IMHO) needed python files. But if I install this package AFTER himawaripy - everything is OK. It works if I start in the terminal program.
OK, the main part of the script was installed right to the
/usr/bin/goes16-background
Second. I installed a Milky Way image as a background. Then I modified
goes16-background.service file as follows:
ExecStart=/usr/bin/goes16-background --compose-over /home/alex/milkyway.jpg
Third. I setup systemd timer just in accordance with your instruction:
systemctl --user enable --now goes16-background.timer
And in 15 minutes I can see the Earth image over the Milky Way. It is OK.
Fourth. Well, in 15 minutes, and in 15 minutes, and in 15 minutes there were NO CHANGES of the Earth image.
Fifth. I left the window session and logged in again. And I saw the latest Earth image, but no change in 15, 15, 15 minutes!
I'm lost. Why does the script not update the image?
Can you help, please?
Best regards,
Alex
