Error in gridEZ_rasterize function

I tested the example for St Kitts an Nevis, but cannot proceed because an error is returned by the function. Because of break at this step I cannot complete the example.

KNAad_raster <- gridEZ_rasterize(KNAad_poly, KNApop_raster, field = field_ID)

The error states that:

"error in evaluating the argument 'x' in selecting a method for function 'is.factor': Not compatible with requested type: [type=character; target=double]"

For x parameter I just used the admin boundary file that was listed (and was downloaded without error - gadm36_KNA_shp/gadm36_KNA_1.shp on //filestore.soton.ac.uk/users/cad1c14/mydocuments/gridEZ) and then transformed using readOGR

I can see indeed that the class of the variable specified (in field argument of gridEZ_rasterize is indeed a character.

Is the problem with the input dataset (the shp file) which has changed since the program was written? Or is there a problem in the function?

As I understand gridEZ_rasterize's purpose is to transpose the field (ie. the administrative area identifiers) from the data showing admin boundaries (originally the shapefile) to the map with the population. Having the field as a character seems appropriate, so I don't see what could be wrong with the files.
