Ability to contact you privately

Hi,

I think your project is brilliant, desperately needed and would love to learn more. I would however like to setup secure encrypted communications with your team rather than just sending a normal email. May I suggest you add to your website a PGP key for those who wish to email you securely, and/or contact details for another tool like Matrix/Signal/Threema. You could also have a Protonmail/Tutanota/Ctemplar email which by default is encrypted if the person wanting to communicate with you also uses those tools.

Best of luck with an incredibly important company.

Yours,

NyamiDev

FAQ

As the project develops, we still don't have a section of Frequently Asked Questions to refer people to in social media interactions. We manually type answers to questions like: 'what is Locha mesh?' 'why a mesh?' Sometimes even 'what is a mesh?'

As more people is getting involved in the conversation, it is time to address this questions in a better way. I invite the devs to join in this topic by participating in the process of answering questions, correcting typos, concepts, suggesting, etc.

Questions listed by me:

  • What is a mesh network and what is Locha Mesh?
  • Why is Locha Mesh licensed under the Apache License 2.0?
  • What is a ‘Turpial’ node?
  • What is a ‘Harpia’ node?
  • How does the Locha Mesh work?
  • What can be transmitted over the Locha Mesh?
  • How far in kilometres (km) can you transmit data over the Locha Mesh?
  • What radio frequencies can a Turpial node or a DIY Turpial node use and why?
  • Why do we need a decentralized mesh network?
  • Can other devices join the Locha Mesh network?
  • How many devices running the Locha Mesh protocol are needed to create a mesh?
  • Do I need to be ‘on-line’ at all times to receive messages?
  • I want to contribute to this project. Where do I start?
  • I can’t donate any money, nor code. How else can I help?
  • Can’t find an answer to your question?

Note that every question follows a logic order. I will submit a PR with answers suggested by me to these questions.

Document DIY device range capabilities

https://github.com/btcven/locha/blob/master/documentation/en/diy_turpial.md mentions ability to create your own LochaMesha device using LAUNCXL-CC1312R1, but does not document expected working range.

Meanwhile, LochaMesh FAQ (https://github.com/btcven/locha/blob/master/documentation/en/faqs.md#faq) states:

Turpial nodes are able to reach other Turpial devices in 1-2 km radius in urban areas

How would DIY LAUNCXL-CC1312R1-based device compare? If it's range is poor, is there a way to boost it while keeping it legal in EU (and other jurisdictions)?

Without that information it's hard to decide if there's a point even for trying to make one. I would probably need one intermediate node to connect to friend, but if DIY version will only working range is, for example, up to 1km in urban area, that would mean it would be infeasible...

Resume Tupial manufacturing in parnership with other Bitcoin-related HW manufacturers

There's Coinkite, that develops OpenDime and Coldcard, SatoshiLabs that develops Trezor wallet, and there are others.

Maybe partnership with them could make LochaMesh happen? I believe @rdymac mentioned in one of the interviews that by fact that company was running on developers, not businessman or sales people, LochaMesh company failed (more or less? Please correct me if I'm wrong).

Improve documentation for contributors and how to build a DIY version

This issue is related to the CCS proposal: https://locha.io/monero

Identify docs and links that need work and new ones that may need to be created.

Crear sitio web informativo en español

One file per chapter.

The problem:

One file for all the documentation will be a huge problem for many reviewers, for example a simple PR can be a headache.

Solution:

Break the document into chapters, this way each chapter will be a document. this will facilitate the reviews and PRs

Keep in mind:

For future translations to other languages, the name of the files will be language agnostic. For example, each chapter can be named chapter_1.md for the chapter "one", chapter_2.md for chapter "two", and so.

Performance benchmarks

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
For the prototypes that have been tested successfully, did anyone run performance benchmarks?

Describe the solution you'd like
Would be great to have benchmarks available for any MCU or radio module that is tested, as well as a way for people who test new MCUs and radio modules to add their benchmarks to a list here. This would help enhance future builds and make it easier for people to decide what hardware to use.

Describe alternatives you've considered
none

Additional context

FAQ Update Request

Update to FAQ request

Please could you provide an example in the FAQ of how a purchaser of say 3 Turpials would use these tools right now in the real word to connect to the internet. Give an example, lets say you are in Johannesburg and the power goes out, who do you actually connect to? Do you have to find peers online before the internet goes out, ie prepare first, therefore decide who will be the actuall internet gateway etc. What I mean is can you provide a worked real world example. What if I am the only person in Joberg that has locha mesh tools? Will that be of no use? Can you suggest a minimum viable network setup, so one could say encourage 5 friends to get involved and build a test network prior to it being needed in anger. From reading the FAQ I would end up with some clever devices but not know who to connect to. Perhaps elaborate on this?

Secondly, can you provide a map of giving an idea where the network is rolled out already? I know this can change and the whole idea is that it is private, flexible and can start and stop at any time. It would just be nice to know that there is potential network effect in the area you are considering so you could piggy back on the existing infrastructure.

Thirdly, is there a way of contacting prospective peers, via some private social media group, on Matrix for example?

Thank you,

NyamiDev

standalone device

A standalone wallet device would be cool.
Something like the case wallet, but without the centralized server part, and with communication over the mesh instead of GPRS.
