wxpython-iris-client's Introduction

Client implemented with wxPython for the Iris Screen Exporter server

This is a client for the Iris-Screen-Exporter using wxPython. The intended usage is to run the client on a Linux computer, such as the Raspberry Pi so that you can, for example, display Multi Function Displays (MFDs) from Digital Combat Simulator on external displays.

Currently there is no configuration file, so you will have edit the following parameters in the code itself:

BUFFER_SIZE

The Iris server sends images as JPEG files in UDP packets; one image per packet. The receive buffer must be large enough to fit one image. A buffer of 100000 bytes should be sufficient for a 600x600 pixel image. If you send larger images, then you will probably have to increase this value. If the client outputs "Corrupt JPEG data: premature end of data segment" then your buffer is probably too small.

PORT

This is the UDP port the client listens to for incoming images. Use the same port that has been configured in the Iris server.

DEBUG

Set to True to output debugging information to a separate window. Currently this will display the maximum size of the received images.

POS

The upper left corner of the window that will display the images.

SIZE

The size of the window. This should match the image size sent by the server.

The software has been tested in:

  • Linux Mint (Ubuntu) in a laptop, using Python 3 and python-wxgtk4.0

  • Debian in a Raspberry Pi, using Python 2 and python-wxgtk3.0

You need to install at least the following packages for it to work:

  • python-wxgtk3.0, or

  • python-wxgtk4.0
