When a new page is saved and the field is set to default to the current date, a negative date value is shown instead.

The database field in that case contains an all-zero date string.

Great idea for a module!

It seems to just return a string instead of object tho. I've followed the installation instructions but when used, it's not different from Datetime field.

Would you know where to look for clues to fix this? Or is there a step I've missed?

All PW modules extend WireData which extends Wire, and Wire::__toString() returns the class name.

It looks like the core expects all modules to return their class name as the string value - see FieldtypeModule.

This causes an error with WireDT because it does not return the class name in __toString(), so this use of wireClassParents() fails. You can see this error via Tracy in the PW back-end by editing any page that uses the admin template while DatetimeAdvanced is installed.

Not sure if this is something you could change in WireDT or maybe suggest to Ryan that $parents = wireClassParents("$module"); be replaced with $parents = wireClassParents($module); so the is_object() part of wireClassParents() would come into play.

On this line, WireExpection should be WireException.
