dwc_network_server_emulator's Issues

Help! Error 51099

I can't connect to the server, getting 51099 error. However I was able to test the connection to Nintendo server. Any idea how to troubleshoot this issue?
Thanks.

EDIT: I managed to got rid of the error code by setting the access point to SoftAP. However, now I am getting the 20100 error. I checked the troubleshooting page and it says there that this may be caused due to the server being offline. So, is there any way to check whether the server is online or not?

EDIT: Ok guys, so perhaps the problem was with the patch applied. Action Replay patch did not work for me but the ROM PATCHER one worked like a charm and now I can connect to the server without any issues. Thanks for this awesome server guys!

Regression in matchmaking for Mario Kart DS, possibly others.

For the last 12+ hours matchmaking in Mario Kart appears to have become broken using altwfc. The stats server has been listing over 20 users (and later over 30) for all of that time, but even when users are confirmed searching on IRC, no other players can be found. Confirmed by a number of users; myself, BarronWaffles, Italy, Sev7n1, Azor. I've personally played with Waffles previously and am able to play other titles such as Zelda: Phantom Hourglass with him.

The game Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing shows essentially identical behavior. Connections to the server go through, but the search phase never finds any other players (in either "anyone" or "friends" mode). Confirmed this behavior with BarronWaffles, we were unable to find each other on either mode. I will note, however, that I had not previously verified Sonic Kart as working, so the problem may be unrelated.

Pokémon B&W issues

global terminal does not work any option, only connect, the same goes in the underground battle in the Wi-Fi station.

Error code 20100

I dont have AR for my 3ds, so i used Rom patcher. I followed instructions without any single mistake and set up new connection point. I tried it out and connection was successful. All configuration was made in start game menu. Then i tried to connect ingame (Yu-gi-oh world championship 2011 over the nexus) and got this 20100 error code. I even tried to patch another rom after but got the same result.

Remove need for changing DNS settings.

It would be nice if you created a domain name the same string length as "nintendowifi.net" that will point to your server and be accepted by your apache config when it sees that host in the Request's Host header; doing the same thing it would have if the host said "nintendowifi.net". I could make a Riivolution patch that replaced all "nintendowifi.net" with "ramen.altwfc.net" and thus people won't need to change their DNS settings. They'll just start riivolution and I'd provide a patch called "Use altwfc servers".

Background

http://forum.wii-homebrew.com/board42-kreativitaet/board329-mkw-server-project-english/51700-multi-game-support/index18.html#post6001481
TL,DR - Make the subdomains ".ramen.altwfc.net"(same string length as "nintendowifi.net") point to altwfc's IPaddress and Hostname ".ramen.altwfc.net" be accepted on your apache config the same way "nintendowifi.net" currently is.

Right now, this is what I see:

Connection Issues

I tried to connect using both a retail copy and an emulated version of Pokemon Pearl today. The first problem was with the retail copy. Either the AR code the WfcReplay program generated isn't working right or my Internet configuration just doesn't like my DS Lite. (It was unable to obtain IP address, not sure what could cause it.) The second problem was with the emulated version. When I finally got DeSmuME set up correctly to use the internet, I tried connecting and got error number 23404 (service has either high traffic or is temporarily down). I may have just connected at a bad time while updates were being made, but I'm not sure as there's no way to check the server status that I know of. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Yes, I was using a patched version of Pearl for emulation. I will also be attempting to fix the IP issue with a manual setup for the retail copy. More news later. Also, I need to figure out how to catch packets :P

EDIT 2: Have the software installed, but not sure how to disable offloading. Emulated version of Pearl still won't connect with error 23404. About to try with packet capture (may be issues if offloading interferes, but whatever).

Licensing

So it's finally time to bring up the issue of licensing. The biggest thing we want out of the license is for the server to stay open source and for people to be required to contribute back any changes they make. Naturally I'm leaning toward something in the GPL family because of the last requirement.

@ToadKing suggested on IRC the use of the AGPL license for this project which seems like a decent fit for this project.

That leaves @AdmiralCurtiss and @msoucy.

Heartbeat can change data without setting statechanged

FYI, See below image.

This has caused issues for TvC since one of the parameters of the search when looking for other people is "numplayers < 1". I've changed my instance to:

if 'dwc_hoststate' in k and k['dwc_hoststate'] != "0":
  self.log(logging.DEBUG, address, "Setting statechanged because dwc_hoststate != 0")
  k['statechanged'] = "1"

if "statechanged" in k:
 if k['statechanged'] == "2": # Close server

Which does cause redundant updates to the server list, but the data seems to be in sync better. If other games do this and altwfc cannot rely on statechanged to always be set, then doing an update for every heartbeat might result in some games working better. FWIW, I think this is a bug in the game code.

Server search query is not correctly parsed

The server is unable to parse the search request of Mario Kart Wii:

[2014-04-12 08:44:41 | GameSpyServerBrowserServer] Searching for server matching 'dwc_mver = 90 and dwc_pid != 1 and maxplayers = 11 and numplayers < 11 and dwc_mtype = 0 and dwc_hoststate = 2 and dwc_suspend = 0 and (rk = 'vs_123' and (ev > 4263 or ev <= 5763) and p = 0)' with the fields '['numplayers', 'maxplayers', 'dwc_pid', 'dwc_mtype', 'dwc_mver', 'dwc_eval', 'dwc_groupid', 'dwc_hoststate', 'dwc_suspend', 'rk', 'ev', 'eb', 'p']'
Matched: dwc_suspend = 0
Matched: dwc_hoststate = 2
Matched: dwc_mtype = 0
Matched: numplayers < 11
Matched: maxplayers = 11
Not matched: dwc_pid != 1
Matched: dwc_mver = 90
Matched: p = 0
Not matched: ev = 5763
Matched: 4263 < or
Matched: rk > ev
Matched 9/10
Matched 0/10

This is because of the brackets - the part with ev and rk is wrong. You better add a table in your database with this data, then you can simply query this string to the database and get the players back, because other Wii games use more complicated strings and it'll be hard to add all those combinations of values into the server.

Is it possible to have Weather Channel support?

Sorry, this isn't as much of an issue as a question, but I know that some games use the Weather (and maybe news) channels to get content and change things about how the game functions (like the weather in game). Is there a chance the server could extend to the weather channel?

Thanks!

Working games/possible help?

Hi,
I would like to ask if there is some way to help with game reports. I know that the project is in early stage, but I think it would be nice anyway. I'm gonna post my first report anyway, maybe you could tell me if it helps and if I should continue with it.

Thanks for your time and now the report.

42 All-Time Classics (Clubhouse Games in US)
Connects OK, matchmaking works only when both of you search for game at the same time. Game initialization takes more than 2 minutes, sometimes ends in 52200 error anyway. Actual gameplay is alright, no drops whatsoever. Game with friends doesn't work. Doesn't matter if you try to host or search for game, after just few seconds to minutes, it ends with either 52200 or 84020 error. I suspect the drawing chat to be the culprit, it's pretty much the only difference between worldwide and friends match.

Thanks one again for your time.

authp should not rely on a previous connection to gpcm/profile-server to create an entry in the users table

Don't know if any WII games are getting connection errors because of this, but...

The official servers can respond to authp without ever seeing a corresponding connection to gpcm profile server or POST /ac acctcreate.

https://github.com/polaris-/dwc_network_server_emulator/blob/master/gamespy/gs_database.py#L358

First, create_user could be renamed to create_or_update_user and the method generate_authtoken should call create_or_update_user at the end. If the user exist, UPDATE, otherwise INSERT. The only reason I say update is because perhaps weird things happen with dolphin players; in reality a normal WII console should never change any of those values and the UPDATE wouldn't ever contain data different from what's already in the table. Except for the time fields I guess.

getpd times out when asked for a pid that is not the one returned by \pauthr\

The official servers allow the usage of getpd as soon as the first \auth\ is successful. altwfc does not; causing socket timeout and making some people receive Communication Error . This is being observed in TvC, but I'm sure other games will get Communication errors because of this as well.

DeSmuME not connecting to server

hi guys, I used one of the old wifi builds of desmume, changed dns, but was not able to connect to the WFC.

anyone can advise other settings or what to fix in the source code to compile the emulator working with wifi emu

Ban Support

May as well make it an official issue.
We need a method to ban people. The first match I got in a long time in Mario Kart Wii was with a cheater who wasn't even subtle, spamming infinite blue shells.

Anyway, for DS, we really can only ban by MAC+IP address. For Wii, we can ban by MAC address+Console ID+IP.

Although given the situation with Dolphin's non-unique CID, simple IP banning may be a better approach all around.

Error code

I am using the AR to play on mph. For the first few days, my connecting was fine. But then I got an error code 52100 "You connected to an access point but were unable to connect nintendo wfc." I restarted it again, and it said the same thing. It's been happening for a day now. Help!?

Support large rooms in Mario Kart Wii

Players are reporting that AltWFC is unable to handle MKW rooms with more than 4 players.

If I had to guess, it's that the game must use a hub and spoke model similar to Mario Kart 7, which is unimplemented. In MK7, a few players are declared servers and are responsible for a subset of players and sharing their telemetry with the other player-servers.

The closure of NWFC is hardly an issue in this regard since Wiimmfi supports 12-player MKW rooms and can be captured in just the same way.

Incorrect security

I tried making a WiFi acess point with my modem but the problem is my modem has WPA-PSK(AES) security and the game requires WEP so it doesnt work. Can someone please help me with this issue? Thank you.

Will Pokémon games work with the server?

I have tested Pokémon Black 2, it connects fine but none of the online options worked.
I know the server isn't a magic thing, but I just wanted to know if the online options of the game may work someday.

Detection of console type (Wii or DS) doesn't work

I'm trying to find another player on this server with my Wii and Mario Kart, but the server uses the DS's endianness. With a manual "console = 1" I fixed this problem, but then DS matchmaking won't work any more.

Mario Kart DS

Hi,
When I apply the nonSSL patch to my mario kart DS ROM(USA) the game is not oppened by my R4,
I tried on Europe Version and in USA version, both aren't working for me after I apply the nonSSL patch
What can I do?
It only worked on the Japanese mario kart DS version , but , unfortunately the japanese version can't connect to the server yet :(
Thanks, Abel

getpd command sent without specific keys, should return all keys.

I don't know if there are any bugs out there, I'm just opening this issue based on the TvC fixes. These very minor differences between official server and polaris can mean the difference between a game working or "Communication Error" .

Servers down?

Just downloaded this, patched the rom, put on my flashcart, followed the instructions, it connects to my WEP wi-fi network but doens't connect to the server... Help!

Error Code 52000

I Try to connect, but dont connect, just show to me error code 52000,what i make wrong, because my pokemon diamond work, but i doesnt connect in mystery gift, and gts too, what i need to do now?

Brawl error code 85010

Every time I select With Friends or Basic Brawl, I get disconnected within less than a minute, with the message "Disconnected from network during transmission. Error Code: 85010" I followed the instructions, changed primary and secondary dns, deleted my save file, ran offline network enabler, and load the game through brainslug. I've had no problem playing online until just recently. Is this a problem with the server, or maybe my internet connection?

Mario Kart DS Matchmaking Issues

When i search a player in Worldwide match i don't find any peoples i read an issues topic like my. can an admin answer me??' please i need help

is the server still down if so is there any idea of when itll be back

I've been trying to connect to the server for the past couple of weeks and I keep getting error codes 52100 for my ds games (on the test) and 52130 on my wii's connection test I know I've brought this up before but I thought the server would finally be back and I just wonder if there's any idea when it may be back or at least what progress its at, at coming back

Pythonic conversion

I'm making this meta-issue so that it's easier to keep track of the things that I (and maybe others) find in this conversion.

  • Use list constructors instead of using .append()
  • Use logger argument support instead of using % directly, which could have slight performance gains
  • Use list comprehensions for mapping values into lists
  • Use context managers for safely handling file opening
  • Use the struct module to (de)code packed bytes
  • Use an enum-like class/structure to identify console instead of boolean values (just for legibility's sake)
  • Use foo is None instead of foo == None for None, True, and False. The reason for this is that some types may implement custom comparison operators. Although this is unlikely in this codebase, it's a general good practice to follow (especially if more large-scale refactorings happen in the future)
  • Use from __future__ import foo to get code inline with long-term stable behavior
  • Try to use names that don't overwrite builtins

R4i Flash Card Option?

Is it possible to use a flash card like this one to connect to the server? How would I do it?

r4i_gold_3ds

Allow the WII to succeed the connection test.

https://www.cloudshark.org/captures/e4f3db63efde

The above capture is the WII succeeding in a connection test.

There's no SSL here so I'm hopeful it's possible to handle this in the polaris system. For some reason the whole OfflineNetworkEnabler and/or Brainslug won't let the USBLAN to work. While it would be ideal for that problem to be fixed, it would also be nice to just bypass needing O.N.E. and Brainslug entirely. Then a Riivolution patch to remove the naswii SSL connection from games. Then people can go online just using riivolution and have their usblan hardware functional. This is how I go online; I can temporarily tamper with traffic after entering the polaris DNS to allow the connection-test to pass... then I stop tampering to allow it to go to polaris DNS and I'm online with my usblan.

EDIT: I'll be adding more details to this in a day or 2... like the pcap capture of polaris handling the connection test and suggestions on what to change.

im having problems connecting

I set my pokemon platinum to the servers dns and I set my wii to the servers dns nethier one wants to connect when I go to connection test in platinum I get error 52100 when I got to connection test in my wii I get error code 52130 there shouldn't be anything wrong with my wifi since my 3ds games and computer can connect but my ds games and wii wont connect to the server another strange thing is when I test it without the srervers dns it says test successful so is the server down or is there a problem with something else my games used to connect what can I do to fix these issues

Gamestats server crashes Metroid Prime Hunters

When trying to use the custom gamestats server in Metroid Prime Hunters, the game crashes on connecting. Setting the gamestats server DNS to a dummy IP address allows the game to bypass the crash.

Network dump of crash: http://save-nintendo-wifi.com/crash.pcap

It might be the challenge key is too big. Normally the size of the return data in that last packet before the crash is 200 bytes instead of the 296 bytes on the custom server.

Pokemon Mystery Gifts

Will there eventually be a way to control which mystery gift is received? Perhaps by checking the date the connecting system is set to?

Also, will Black/White/Black2/White2 eventually have their mystery gifts added?

getpd always returns your own profileid even when asking for a different one.

While setpd is protected(at least on the official servers) by authp-security to only allow you write-access to your own profileid, getpd(read-only) should not have that same restriction. Anyone should be able to use getpd on anyone else's ID. See below capture that I asked for profileID 2604 but was returned 2120. TvC inefficiently calls pauthr each time while iterating through the players rival/friend list. This bug would cause problems with how that works. I guess everyone would always have the same stats; some games might just get a communication-error if they don't get back the profileID they asked for.

I have erased my save, set the auto obtain DNS to "no", set primary and secondary DNS to 75.127.5.215.
I am using a USA/English version of the game.
Please help

Will this work with Linux (Raspberry Pi/Debian)?

I was wondering if this server software would work with Linux, specifically the Raspberry Pi which runs a modified version of Debian (called Raspbian)? I've never used Python code before, so if you could offer a brief explanation of how to set it up/run it or provide a link to to a good source of information, that would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

Excite Bots Trick Racing support

Apologies but I do not know where else to report this. Excite Bots Trick Racing was not working until the final patches done on Tatsunoko vs Capcom.
https://github.com/polaris-/dwc_network_server_emulator/issues/29

After successfully matching from those fixes I immediately went online with Excite Bots and it allowed me to search a match. Successful matches were played today, so please add ExciteBots Trick Racing to "working" and I will or if you can close this issue as solved ;)

DNS input

For the 3rd set of characters for the DNS, it will only allow me to input 2 characters instead of just the one. Therefore, I cannot input the 5 alone to connect to the server. How could I fix this?
