In Rails 4 under production, the asset_path helper is always returning the basename.extension (e.g. fontawesome-webfont.woff) when it should instead be returning the filename with the compiled hash. (e.g. fontawesome-webfont-91a26c63bb264f7759a8843386b97cdd.woff)

For example:

> rails console
> helper.asset_path('fontawesome-webfont.woff') # => "/assets/fontawesome-webfont.woff"

> rake assets:precompile
> Writing public/assets/fontawesome-webfont-91a26c63bb264f7759a8843386b97cdd.woff
> rails console production
> helper = ActionView::Base.new
> helper.asset_path('fontawesome-webfont.woff') # => "/fontawesome-webfont.woff"
