That's a great idea. Our current application just has text conversion from the HTML form to the markdown application. I'm not quite sure how we would work that into the application form, but it could be super useful.

My first idea is to:

  • Take the screenshots as uploads on the web form
  • Upload the files to an image host (unlisted or private)
  • Place a link to the hosted image in the markdown application that is sent to GitHub

Do you have any thoughts on this?

You can also add files (including images) into comments.

Requesting images in GitHub could be done in a pinch but we may not get them consistently.

In early testing, we had the applicants edit the markdown of the applications themselves. I found it ideal, but it ended up creating friction for applicants. We solved that by using the web application form which was built from scratch. I'm trying to find a way we could integrate the uploads there.

This sounds like a good idea.

What if GitHub could be used as the image host, in a similar way to how images uploaded to comments work?
I can look into this!

That is a really good idea!!

In my opinion, if we want to use GitHub for hosting images, we can always ask for images that they can drag and drop in issue comments,
Or we can even make a new repository for this purpose and use GitHub API to upload images using the form, but I think we do have a 1Gb limit from GitHub for a repository.

Just checking to see where this landed. Do we want to have people just drag and drop screenshots to their issues once the issue is created? @Dhruv-Sachdev1313 @bistaastha

Maybe you have thoughts on this @kaxada?

Hello @ElizabethN , I am really interested to work on this, can I work on this issue?

from eventbadging.

ElizabethN avatar ElizabethN commented on August 28, 2024

@ayushtamra you can! Right now we are using an HTML form that is copy-pasted into Wordpress, so that might be limiting. But feel free to work on it!

Hi Badging Website team! This is a feature request that has been outstanding for a long time because of the limitations of the current application process. As we build out a new site with a new application, maybe this is something we might be able to include?

kaxada avatar kaxada commented on August 28, 2024

@iamkingsleey I'm sure we can fix this somewhere. I'm also thinking it's time we design the UI of the application process. I could start building and transferring some stuff slowly as soon as I know how you want this to look like.

Thanks @ElizabethN. Can't believe I was tagged here 9 months ago though 😳

@iamkingsleey how can the design team help with this?

hey @iamkingsleey do you still have a clue about this?!
