When building on FreeBSD, I get this error:

Checking the code, I find:

Your current README/CI uses libmariadbclient-dev. This is fine for now, but in the future when you update the Debian/Ubuntu version you are using in the CI, you should change those to libmariadb-dev (or libmariadb-dev-compat if you need to build something old that does not find the correct soname otherwise).

I noticed in your implementation of mariadb you are down casting quite few types to int as you fetch INT, LONG etc.., therefore resulting in data loss when this fetched value is reassigned to a bigger type. This happens in function h_get_mariadb_value(const char * value, const unsigned long length, const int m_type) namely the line:

i_value = strtol(value, &endptr, 10);
i_value should be declared minimum int64_t (or largest available) and the struct _h_type_int should be augmented as well, or expand the pool of available types

hoel-Wiki needs to be updated to include build instructions for orcania library.

I have a binary column in my mysql db of a fixed length. Does this library support updating and querying that filed? will data be retained in original binary, or encoding is necessary?
