I think the backend.openshiftcluster.duration metric will already approximately track this as a first cut

At the moment, I think what we do is this:

  • each time the backend completes, in the process possibly making a state transition, we emit a duration metric mapped against the incoming state.

This is not great because creation actually involves two dequeues, so we log the duration of the first phase against creating, and then the second phase against creating.

This means we don't have a metric for how long creates took - because we can't correlate the two metrics emitted in the process.

Better would be for the front end to store a timestamp in the database indicating the time it wrote the transition, then the backend to read off that timestamp when the transition has completed, i.e. creating->created, and emit a metric.

Cross check @mjudeikis' work in #337 which is also posting temporary values from the front end to the back end

I think #337 should name structure CorrelationData (not CorrelationIDs) so we can add more data like this in this temporary structure.
