Any idea if having the tiler do reprojection would be a significant performance hit?
It would be convenient to use the same projection for client Leaflet code and server PostGIS code, though transforms haven't been a big hassle in OTM.
Also, Leaflet 1.0 supposedly has better support for projections, so we might be able to use 3857 everywhere.

After doing a bit of research into this, it appears that we don't need the_geom_webmercator
as the column name and we can use projections other than 3857

It's unclear to me from reading the documentation what setting the srid
option actually does though. The docs don't mention whether it will be used simply to reproject to 3857 (good), or if the map will be rasterized in that projection (not good).
