Sample python-v1.zip fails to run on preconfigured docker python platform

The sample Python application python-v1.zip from https://docs.aws.amazon.com/elasticbeanstalk/latest/dg/tutorials.html does deploy successfully when you upload it via the EB console.

But it fails to run afterwards due to a python error:

eb-python-flask fails to deploy on preconfigured docker python platform

Deploy a sample application from the Elastic Beanstalk console using the preconfigured docker python platform
Download eb-python-flask sample application from github as zip file
Re-zip files without parent directory for upload to EB
Upload zip file as new application version
Try to deploy to Default-Environment
Deployment fails with ERROR: InvalidParameterValue: Unknown template parameter: StaticFiles
