Found one has to install also gem install compass htmlcompressor. This is even not in the getting started guide.

Thanks for finding an issue. Would you like to help out by sending a pull
request?

It's not only that. To start server in dev mode it seems some gems in Gemfile need to be uncommented by default. Also wrong specification for bootstrap-sass gem. This getting started experience needs some good polishing IMO. But I know almost nothing about the project and I'm not sure my proposed changes are the proper fix. And have too little time to play with it. I'm looking to do a side project in my free time which is seriously lacking lately. For the time being can't look into that. If I go somewhere with my project, namely start to understanding what I'm doing, I may look into that but I can't promise.

Understandable. Front end ruby gems are quickly becoming a thing of the
past. Some are no longer kept up to date. I've been thinking of the best
way to integrate the front end (mostly node) community with awestruct. I do
not have an answer yet.
