This function below does this to some degree, and seems to be a very non-hacky way of doing what I am doing:

 ${function:Import-PowerShellDataFile}

.NET Classes/Functions to look for:

• [System.Management.Automation.Language.Parser]::ParseFile
• $data.findAll
• [System.Management.Automation.Language.HashtableAst]

$data.FindAll( { $args[0] -is [System.Management.Automation.Language.CommandElementAst] }, $false ) | ? StringConstantType -eq BareWord | % Value

That should be enough to implement the fix!
