Auto-select ESP based on chosen property
U-Boot NVMe broken on Ventura (13.0 beta) firmware
I upgraded to first beta of macOS Ventura on my MacBook Air (8/8/512) with M1 and have problem with booting into Asahi.
Upgraded from 12.4
One macOS and one Asahi.
The default boot volume after update was macOS.
Asahi boot stuck at U-Boot with:
Device 0: unknown device
Failed to boot from ESP with UUID <UUID>
Trying to boot from USB ...
Device 0: unknown device
Failed to find boot partition 'run distro_bootcmd' to boot from any partition

Pinebook USB-C dock & Lenovo USB-C wireless receiver causing U-Boot to stall on Macbook Air 2020 (8GB, 256GB)
Coming here from the reddit thread on kexec. I have these devices:
-Lenovo USB-C receiver (used for high-DPI wireless mice and wireless keyboards)
-Pinebook Pro USB-C dock (excellent device to make these minimalist macs into proper laptops link to Pine64 for specs
What the error looks like and how to partially make it work
Usually what happens is if I boot with any of these plugged in, U-Boot is really slow (the devices seem to interrupt U-Boot) and eventually if I do nothing it'll complain about the XHCI USB errors. The trick that works sometimes is wait for it to start chainloading GRUB (which it doesn't load on itself), it'll just say something like "starting up GRUB" but I can see its still the U-Boot black screen. So once that happens, I press Ctrl + Alt + Del (with fn) and instead of CPU-reset, it causes U-Boot to skip its USB stuff and goes straight to GRUB (where I set GRUB_TIMEOUT=0 so that it immediately boots the kernel.
Sometimes waiting too long to press Ctrl+Alt+Del, it'll boot the kernel but with some errors mentioning apple.usb or something like that, and kernel/systemd will hang without ever starting userspace.
Unfortunately, plugging in these devices while the computer is running, about half the time it'll recognize them, but the other half it'll either ignore them, or the computer completely freezes (I usually have to alternate plugging them into different USB-C ports to get it to recognize them). I am running Debian stable from the Asahi wiki of "other distros", with the latest Asahi repo of kernels and mesa and all that (6.5.0-asahi)
lsusb reports
I've run sudo lsusb -v with these devices independently plugged in and nothing else plugged into the docks. When neither of the 2 USB's on the Mac have anything plugged in, lsusb reports nothing at all, so the following sections only include everything each of the devices report, nothing extra.
Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide to help update

boot failure when usb disk is connected
Not sure, if m1n1 is the right place to report this ...
I installed Asahi Linux with the installer on a Mac Mini M1 on the internal SSD. Basically works fine with the known limitations.
However, if my external USB disk is connected (which I use for time machine backups when macOS is running), the boot process fails (see photo)
Any ideas? I would prefer to leave the usb disk connected, as it is useful when running macOS.

Description
When I plug in the drive and start my mac (EFI partition is standard boot) it seems like its working fine. after a few seconds the mac restarts and the same happens again.

I've been experimenting with getting gentoo installed on an unsupported Mac Mini M2 pro using chadmed's asahi-gentoosupport repo and the instructions from the alternate-distros page, except instead of using a normal stage3 (GNU toolchain/glibc) I'm using the experimental LLVM/musl one.
This has been fine so far, except when trying to compile u-boot with portage as I get an error about a duplicate definition of _start in arch/arm/cpu/armv8/start.S as the symbol is also defined in boot0-linux-kernel-header.h which is imported by start.S.
This has been fixed upstream by removing the duplicate definition:

Would you consider applying this change?
Note: This still doesn't fix compilation with the LLVM/musl stage3 as linking fails, however this is an upstream issue that can be worked around by using ld.bfd instead of ld.lld for now as ld.lld is not supported.
boot failure when kvm is connected
Hi - I have an XHCI error in U-Boot when my TESmart 4 port KVM switch is connected to my 2020 M1 Macbook Air.
I mentioned this already on #4, but looking again I think my error may be slightly different from the one reported there, I also have some more info.
The normal boot error looks like this:
Examining the code, the timeout on event type 0 must be from within abort_td, which is only called in two places. If I rebuild U-Boot (asahi-v2023.07.02-4) and convert the two lines before the abort_td calls in drivers/usb/host/xhci-ring.c from debug to printf then I see:
This looks to me as if there are possibly two bugs, the bulk transfer timeout happening anyway (why?) which eventually triggers a different (?) bug of a timeout on TRB_NONE inside abort_td (when trying to flush the queue after the bulk transfer timeout).
I appreciate this may be an upstream bug. I am happy to take advice and post upstream if that would help, or to run additional tests.
