Solarized Dark for Xcode

Note

I've moved away from using Solarized to a Night-Shift/Dark-Mode-friendly palette of my own creation; Cognac. It's available for many editors, including Xcode.

I will still continue supporting this Solarized Dark theme for the Xcode community.

Background

This theme works with Xcode 8, 9, and 10.

This theme used to work with Xcode 5, 6, and 7, but due to the changes to the theme editor, the latest version of this theme is no longer compatible with those versions.

Installation

Automatic (via script)

./install.sh

which will install the file in Xcode FontAndColorThemes directory.

  • Restart Xcode
  • Go to preferences and select Solarized Dark

Manual InstallationÂ

Copy the .xccolortheme file into the following directory:

~/Library/Developer/Xcode/UserData/FontAndColorThemes
  • Restart Xcode
  • Go to preferences and select Solarized Dark

solarized-dark-for-xcode's Issues

Selection color too dark

I love solarized. And I really appreciated finding this Xcode theme already set up. But I noticed one issue with it.

The solarized Terminal theme I use has the light background as the selection color making it very easy to see selections. And since solarized works on either background, all text is still clearly readable. However this Xcode template has the selection color set to a much darker blue very similar to the background. This makes it very very hard to tell what is selected, especially on less the perfect monitors than a MBPr.

On my own machine I've changed the selection color to the light background color to match my terminal and it works out great for me. I thought I'd make the suggestion here for others.
