The transition function currently starts quick and finishes more slowly. It does the same whether the left pane is appearing or disappearing. It should be the opposite when disappearing.

The amount of material is updated every second, which makes React recalculate the DOM too many times. The context should only provide the last update timestamp and the production rate. The final amount is then only calculated locally in the component that needs it.

Style components using TypeScript and share styles among components through imports. The point is to make each component more independent and have everything in one file, as opposed to having to open another file to edit the styles.
